Academy Sports + Outdoors — Attraction in Manhattan

I have never had any issues going in here the couple times that I have it’s a very clean and well put together store. I went in there the other day and had the best experience. I needed a piece for my son’s baseball helmet that was required, I was greeted the moment I walked in and helped right away sorry I didn’t get the sweet man’s name that greeted me but he was so nice offered my kids some candy and took me to someone who could help me with my situation, before leaving me with the new associate or manager he made sure I didn’t need anymore help before leaving. I was then with Chad and the inventory of what I needed was very low, he looked and looked for the piece I needed he found it but he wasn’t positive that it would work so he then asked me if my son needed a red helmet, I said not necessarily. He asked me if a grey one would be okay. I said yes that would be fine. He then took us up front to do the exchange with out hesitation. He could have simply directed me to a different sports store but instead he went above and beyond to make it right. I had 3 or so folks that helped me at the gun counter-Max, Hunter, Mitchell, Jesus, & a couple others that I am forgetting. It was a great experience. Max was extremely knowledgeable on the rifle I was interested in and helped me find a scope that was a great fit. I was able to get the scope mounted in store & bore sighted with no issues & quickly. The guys came out from behind the counter & helped me fit dust covers & didn't stop until there was a perfect fit. This was an awesome experience & went far above my expectations. There are some good old boys in MHK & thats exactly who you want at the gun counter. For the record - If you have not seen Mitchell's cursive hand writing when filling out paper work, it is a work of art. No one has handwriting like that these days. It's the little things that make Academy in Manhattan, Kansas one of my favorite store. We used the restroom while there & it was clean, had plenty of soap, hot water, & paper towels. I was headed home & forgot some ear protection, I ran back into the store & was greeted quickly again & was pointed in the right direction & even found the type I was looking for on sale! I would give this store 0 stars if I could. Walking in, I immediately heard a loud voice being extremely disrespectful to other employees. And no, it was not a customer. I can only assume it was a manager yelling at her employees for whatever reason. It was horrible to experience that first walking in and it assured me that this is not a place where I would like to purchase products from. Especially if this is how they are treating their employees around the busy holidays. Borderline hostile work environment case. I can understand when someone is having a bad day. But when I heard this same voice twice in the span of me being in the store, I suspected that this is how that higher up is all the time. I do not recommend spending your time or money in this Academy store if you ever care about how the employees are being treated. Coming from a manager themselves, I found this to be unethical and completely unacceptable. I hope this will change in the future but from what I heard from this higher up, I don't think it will,...
