Aloha! This review also included few other experiences we had during the stay for 8 nights in Maui. It was a bit over extended since we think 5 nights stay is probably sufficient. There's no pros and cons in the review. If you've gone through it, it would probably save you much time and resources. *The reason we gave it 4 stars because of one thing that bothered us the most is the Roku remote control. It's way too old, worn out, and sensitive. Probably also near the end of the batteries. It doesn't cost much to replace it. If the management replaces it and let us know, we will change the rating to 5 stars :) *The 1 bedroom condo is sufficient with beautiful ocean view front. However, the bathroom is a bit small and there's no laundry in the unit. The coin operated laundromat is next to the front office. It's more of a family oriented atmosphere since many of these families visited here repeatedly. We're glad we booked the first floor so the access to the BBQ grill was much easier. We grilled almost everyday. Management needs to provide a grilling tongue for each condo, not the salad tossing one. The second floor view is more spectacular if you don't mind running up and down. *You need to buy your own toiletries if you use them up, and you also need to do your own laundry. The management do not refill them for you. They don't offer daily maid service. *If you forget to bring cash, no problem. The Time Market half a mile to Lahaina will allow you to get $50 cash back using your Debit card when you make a purchase. Time market is much better in prices compare to Safeway farther down. Better local fruits and veggies, especially fresh whole coconut drink can be purchased at Farmers Market on the way to the Time Market. They open until 11pm. If you love the best seafood for sashimi or even grilling, go to the Fish Market a few hundred feet from the Farmers Market. The tuna and scallops we got there were beyond excellent! *Prepare for price sticker shocks. Everything is 30-50% more expensive than everywhere you go, but you get the best. We ate so much fruits (the taste is unique only in Hawaii), especially papaya and bananas. Can't get them anywhere on Earth since they don't export them. *Try to book rental car through Lyft available to pick up by the OGG airport. If we knew how cheap it was we would have saved so much money. The rate was $35/day when we checked! Mopeds are available at 808Rides down the road, if you reserve at least one day in advance. The rent 2 days, get 1 free is sufficient. However, if we had a car we would have rented just for the days when we want explore the island by moped. It was a wonderful experience from renting to riding. Gill at the shop is an awesome person! *If you book Sea Fishing, DO NOT book the 5am and do not book more than 4 hours if you can't take the heat. It's harder to get a Lyft ride this wee hours (and expensive), and the bus won't run at this time either. Parking at the Wharf is free for 3 hours, but they mostly won't penalized if you come back late few hours from the fishing trip. Btw, we caught a few small fish, but didn't take anything back for grilling (they didn't offer and we didn't ask) *If you take the bus (that's what we resorted to to save money), get a day pass for $4 and voila, you can go up and down West Maui all day. We even took it back to OGG for $6 per person. The trip to the airport by bus takes about 2 hours. Please give it an hour extra in case there's accident on the road. We were stuck for one hour on the road for it and would have missed our flights if we didn't allow for the extra time. Private rides won't make the difference! *For the next visit again to Maui, we'll rent car from Lyft, go Island Fishing instead of Deep Sea, rent Mopeds for fun exploring the Island, Sails with Cocktails, take bus to the beach to avoid parking issues, and eat as much fruits and seafoods as possible. *Last point, and one of the best advantages at Mahina Surf, there's a quaint Turtles Sanctuary about 50 feet from the Condos. You'd never...
Read moreLong story short, the management is bad and the property is not clean and poorly maintained. I recommend to stay away. If you have time, here is the full story. In our recent Maui trip we booked Mahina Surf thru VRBO. It was a disaster. The property was not clean at all and there is sign of worn out stuff everywhere in this property. It was poorly maintained. The bathroom was not clean at all. The dishwasher was rusty. The sofa bed was unusable so we had to use air mattress instead. That's just when we checked in into the property. In the first night, the sprinkler system broke and the bedroom floor was flooded. Our cloths were all soaked. I complained to the property manager and she arrange to dry it moving the all the bedroom furniture into living room. Practically the property was unusable at that point and the property manager was not willing to help at all. When I called the property manager, she replied she did me a big favor by setting up three big industry grade blower in the bedroom. So, I had to complain to the VRBO and they arranged three days of accomodations for us. We had to come back after three days the floor was damp but it was usable so moved back in. At that point the property manager promised to VRBO to return the money but when we moved back in they lied and return only half of money. But they promised full refund thru VRBO. I am okay with not returning the whole money but lied to VRBO and never showed any compassion for hassled we have been thru. It was our vacation and I didn't want to ruin my entire vacation to ruin because of one incident. Also it was not the first time sprinkler incident in that property the adjacent room been thru the same thing before. I hated the dishonest promises of the...
Read moreWe have stayed at the Mahina Surf several times. it is a lovely spot, the grounds are well maintained and the on site manager, Vince responds to requests in a timely manner. It used to be a 'well kept secret' regarding the location and price. This is now changing. It is under new management. Do not be fooled by the term 'housekeeping'. The unit is cleaned before you arrive but they do not come back each day. You are responsible for your entire length of stay, to clean your suite and wash your bedding and towels. This was the first time we had roaches in our suite. For the money they are requesting per night just be aware. Each unit has different supplies, some better than others. Many of the units need upgrading but this is not demonstrated in the price you will pay. Do your homework, look around. Maui is expensive but I wonder if it has to be this expensive for what you...
