Wonderful location, clean, comfortable condo - among the many things to like about the location and the condo we stayed in. We (my grown sons and I) stayed in a condo 405B. The balcony/lanai overlooked the ocean, the condo complex yard, and the beach. It was a well-stocked condo, very clean, very professional and communicative owners/hosts. Great location just north of Lahaina - easy access to explore the west side of Maui and a lot of great snorkeling spots. We kayaked and swam right off the beach in front of the condo unit. The snorkeling there is not good. There is great snorkeling just a bit south at Airport Beach and Black Rock Beach. Surfing north in Napili. Several turtles swim by the beach and come onto the beach to rest. Great place to hang out and relax - sunset from the balcony at night was memorable. And, you can spot whales breaching and playing right from the balcony as well. Overall a great spot from which to enjoy Maui. We were there in March - so the whales had not migrated north yet. It was awesome. The condo did not have air-conditioning, but that wasn't an issue with the ceiling fans and the ocean breeze. The balcony had a screen door as did the front door of the condo, so the cross breeze kept the condo perfectly cool.||||The weird part was the many guests who got up and "staked out" their spot on the lawn every morning. They'd go get their lawn chairs at 6:30a, pick "their" spot on the lawn, drape a towel over the lawn chair, clip the towel to their chair or fold the chair over to hold the towel in place and then leave the chair there all day - whether they were sitting in it or not. And, follow the rules, even the ones you don't know about - or "they" will talk about you, give you "looks", and make passive-aggressive remarks - "perhaps you should go speak with the building manager about where to store your kayak". Instead of just telling you there is a storage area behind the pool house - ||||We'd stay here again because of the condo owners, the condo itself, the location, the whale and turtle-watching from balcony, and the very nice little private beach. Plus, it's just a short walk to some great food and a short walk/drive to the Kaanapali beach area, Lahaina, Napili,...
Read moreWe have been coming to Maui for years, staying at various places until we found Hale Mahina. We truly love it, and have stayed here the last 4 years. After this year, I have no desire to return. The owners of the units we have stayed in have been amazing, but the and we love the property itself. However, the resident managers Larry & Lynn are awful. I don’t usually write reviews, but have encountered other guests here with similar stories to ours so I decided to finally write something. Larry had issues with our children, but wouldn’t talk to us, just chastise them. When we spoke with Larry, he flat out told us he doesn’t enforce all the rules, apparently only when it means he can yell at my children and not talk to me. He also told me he “doesn’t give a sh*t” how we feel and if we never come back. It really goes a long way to treat people with a small amount of kindness and respect. I came across this review from years ago and agree 100%:
SanDiegoTraveler925 San Diego, California Reviewed July 13, 2011 Time for Larry & Lynn to Retire This is a great condo complex... one of the best in Maui. We have stayed at Hale Mahina 8 times over the past ten years, but will no longer. The property managers - Larry and Lynn - are so intolerant of children it is unbearable. The last two times we stayed they nearly ruined our vacation. If there is so much as a splash in the pool, they come running from their unit to scold the child. They have also used the same pathetic tactic to rid the common/pool area of children... during both my family's past two stays they have strung yellow caution tape around the pool and closed it (for days at a time) for a "broken filter" or some other excuse. There are a few permanent residents at this complex and it seems that Larry and Lynn have band together with them to drive out families. We can't wait to come back and enjoy the property as soon as they retire and move on. Show less Date of stay: October 2010 Trip type:...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at Hale Mahina twice over the past few years. Both times we joined a family who has been staying at this complex for 15+ years. Among this group are 4 senior citizens, 2 couples and 4 children. ||While we have enjoyed the location and our stay, the resident managers Larry and Lynn make things very uncomfortable. They watch you like a hawk all day and run out of their condo as soon as they hear a noise. ||Our children who range from 2-12 were very respectful and followed the pool rules. At times they would get excited and their voices would go up. At these times Larry would run out at scold them. There were other children that were not part of our group in the pool and when they would get loud, everyone would get yelled at. We appreciate how quiet the complex is but feel that Larry goes overboard. We also feel like we were being judged for the behavior of other groups we were not part of.||We tried to book condos again for next year, but were told that groups could no longer book at the Hale Mahina. We are happy to take our business elsewhere. Our group is very family oriented and no longer wish to support a complex that discourages families. If Larry and Lynn were to move on we would be happy to come back to the...
