Lots to see! We decided to visit once more before the new museum comes around. We loved the Streets of Old Milwaukee and the great white shark showing at the planetarium. However, you can tell that it’s a little outdated so a new museum will be exciting to see!
In the butterfly exhibit, we noticed a few butterflies with damaged wings. Not sure if it’s from kids trying to grab the butterflies. Another thing to note is that before being let in the butterfly exhibit, a staff at the door reminds visitors not to climb and be respectful of the butterflies, but once being let in there are kids still climbing all over the rocks to try to grab the butterflies. Speaking of kids, there are lots of them running around and climbing on things like it’s a playground. Some kids almost accidentally ran into us while we were looking at exhibits putting a damper on the museum experience. Because of this, it would be nice to have quiet hours or even a day for just adults 21+ over in the new museum.
As for parking- love the convenience of it being connected right to the museum but it took awhile to find a parking spot due to the tight compact car only parking spaces being taken up by large trucks, so hopefully the new parking garage for the new museum location will be easier.
As for food- hoping there will be more food options in the museum. My girlfriend was thirsty and just wanted a snack but all that was open at the time was the coffee and a vending machine or she had to wait for the cafe to open.
All in all, we had some fun and were able to spend a few hours here and were able to step foot in it one last time. Excited for the new museum and the...
Read moreVery informative History Museum. The employees are very friendly, and always willing to help if asked. Love how much information is tied to each exhibit. This is not a museum that you can do quickly, as even walking through it would take you several hours. I think honestly to interact and read everything it would take you multiple trips. We've been here numerous times over the years, and I continue to learn new information when going. We did take our school-age children here, and after spending several hours, they did get tired towards the end. Although we're ones to really read through things.
The museum itself is multi-leveled, there are escalators, stairs and elevators to access the various levels. You do get a map when entering , as well as there are various places throughout the museum that has maps. On the ground floor there is a Cafe and a Coffee House with traditional Museum prices. They do have kid friendly options, as well as warm food and snack type items. However, with very good reason, food and drink are not allowed in the exhibit area.
The planetarium is very cool! We saw the stargazing in Wisconsin presentation, and it was both informational and wonderful to see. Definitely not something you should do if you have motion sickness though.
Also a big fan of the butterfly exhibit. Love that this is part of the museum. We saw hundreds of butterflies and even had a few land on us in the 20 minutes we spend in here.
There is a parking garage attached to the museum. You can pay when you're leaving, or at the kiosk prior to getting in your car.
Bonus, I'm always surprised how clean it is as well! Kudos to the...
Read moreWe were in town and had a day to use up. What I liked was some supper friendly staff members. They went out of there way making us feel welcome. From the multiple good mornings, to the people monitoring the butterfly exhibit they all were welcoming turning this into a fine experience. There are many bigger, fancier museums in the world but I have yet to experience one that has such friendly staff. It was a busy Saturday and yet they took the time making sure our experience was top notch.
There are other things I liked. I felt the price for the value was right online. I also ate lunch here as well. It was standard food that you find in any other museums such as precooked pizza but they also offered made to order burgers. We also stopped by the gift shop and was surprised that this also was a good value. We found several items that my son liked and they were all reasonably priced. Other places seem to hike the prices up yet this gift shop seemed to be happy making something without gouging people.
Overall this was an excellent experience. It has three floors of exhibits. The second floor usually has a section reserved for a special exhibit that does normally cost extra. They also have an Imax dome that you can pay extra for to see a show that generally has some educational value. Even without all the extras the museum has good value and kept our interest...
