I am very shaken after my experience in this hotel. This is not my first stay here. The first time here was very nice and roughly 3 years ago (right before the pandemic). The hotel itself was clean both times. The room was nice. Minor things I would note and say have declined would be the breakfast. In the past, there was at least a few more options. The breakfast now is embarrassing (and I am not very picky here).
The downtown area has changed since my last visit a few years ago. This is not to the hotel's fault, but something to be mindful of if you travel there. I was awoken on the first night by 2 rounds of extremely close gunfire right outside (confirmed by another guest) and witnessed two extremely large and intense fights walking to dinner within 2 blocks from the hotel between 6 & 8 PM. Again, this is not the reason for my low review.
I was awoken on my last night at 12:45AM by a man's loud voice yelling "Room 607, Room 607 are you in there" repeatedly and extremely aggressively. I had already been awake several times that night because my neighbors had been "intimate" so I initially brushed the banging and voice off as them. Then I realized his voice was very close and he was yelling my actual room number. When I opened my eyes, I saw that he had my door opened but it was stuck against the door arm I had thankfully put in place. He was shining a bright flashlight through the crack of the door hollering in my room at me. I panicked and charged the door slamming it shut and reinforcing the locks and reverifying the arm was in place. I thought that he had talked back to someone to say "someone is in there" but I am not sure if he was talking to himself, and I never looked through the peephole. I was too busy trying to find the hotel phone. Then I realized there wasn't a phone in this room. It took me about ten minutes to actually get myself together and find the number online and call the front desk. In this time, I had looked out the peephole to verify he was no longer outside the door. It is important to note that my room was at the end of the hall and in an end corridor as well that made me feel a bit more vulnerable to someone attempting to enter my room being out of view of others.
When I reached the front desk by phone, the women at the front desk advised me this was the maintenance man that tried to enter the room. I was able to calm down and sleep once I realized that the front desk at least knew who attempted to enter my room and planned to further escalate in the morning.
I spoke to the front desk at checkout the next morning and confirmed it was the same person I had called that evening. She was extremely kind and helpful. What I learned though is that the maintenance man did not check with her before attempting to enter my room to see if it was vacant. She was unsure of what maintenance he would be performing. She also told me that he had not come forward and advised her of the issue until I called to report it. So, I have some real concerns about what the intentions of this man were and why he would do this. I understand accidents happen and I can see how he could have accidentally entered a room he might have thought was empty with a guest in it, but as soon as he met resistance of the door arm, especially at 12:45AM, he should have quietly retreated to avoid terrifying a guest. My mind keeps going to "what if my children had been traveling with me and had gotten to the door first"?
I travel for work sometimes and have never felt vulnerable until now. I have left a couple messages for management and hope to have a returned call to...
Read moreCHECK YOUR MATTRESS !! Upon arriving, we were given room 807. I went to the bathroom and right away notice there was hair on the floor. I have a habit of checking mattresses. I'm glad I did because the mattress was soiled, and look like it had been for some time. We then also noticed that the actual bedsheet had a big red fresh period blood spot. Not dark , but bright red, new blood. I went to the front desk with photos. She moved me to room 905. When I went back to gather my belongings from the 1st room, we then also noticed was a large pair of black ladies underwear On the chair that we missed seeing originally as well. The front desk supervisor, Andrew, gave me a reduced rate of approximately a $50 difference . My original total was $146 with an Incidental. I then noticed 2 days later my bank had a $170 pending charge, that was non reflective of the reduced rate. I had an emailed receipt copy supporting the $102 final total. I called back and spoke to THREE different people over the course of a couple days regarding the matter. One of the times even speaking with Andrew, who assured me that it would all workout, and that the charge would only be $102 reflecting the discount he gave me. At the end of it all, my bank still charged me the original $146, that I then had to dispute. Thankfully, Because I had an emailed copy of the receipt showing it should have only been $102, My bank credited me the difference and is now holding their own investigation to get the money back. I left my phone number with the front desk because I was told that only the general manager, David, could authorize a refund of the difference. I waited for his phone call. That did not happen. I did notice, however, a week -ish later there was an email from him inquiring if the situation had been resolved. I did not bother to even respond to it, as my bank is now handling the ordeal and has credited my account with the money, and they can go after getting the difference back from Fairfield. The parking is across the street for $20. But we were warned if we had two specific types of cars to be careful because there was a rash of car thefts for those two specific cars. I noticed even in the second room their cleaning does not pay attention to details, Like Getting into the crevices by the door thresholds, and room corners with vacuums/ dusting, etc. Very disappointed to be a Bonvoy member, and seeing the hotel really needs to be more detail oriented regarding cleaning ( blood, hair, underwear etc) . And perhaps new mattresses to replace the ones that are stained. Our second room's mattress was OK. Nothing to write home about though. Thank goodness our stay was just...
Read moreWhen we arrived the front desk clerk was VERY curt, unhelpful, and unfriendly. When we got up to our room it was EXTERMELY hot. We turned the air on and waited for it to cool down. It never did. We called the front desk and asked if they had fan we could use while we waited for our room to cool down. We were then informed that the air "wasn't working" and that we should turn the air off and open the bathroom door. We asked if it would get any better or get fixed and were told no. We asked if they could refund us our money because our room was 80 degrees and we couldn't sleep or stay in a room that hot. They told us they could switch our room even though they said it probably wouldn't make a difference. A young man showed up at our door to give us keys and he was extremely helpful and friendly and apologetic. I believe his name was Michael. He was the only helpful, friendly, and apologetic staff we met our entire stay. In our new room it was 2 degrees cooler....so 78. We called again to see if they would refund our room or transfer us to another Marriott and they refused and would only tell us they would transfer us to ANOTHER room. By this point we had wasted THREE HOURS of our trip already and were very frustrated. We told them we did NOT want to keep going from room to room only to be just as hot and wasting our whole evening. They finally put us on hold for a VERY long time and then informed us that they would upgrade our room to a suite and they PROMISED it would be cool in there. Thankfully they were right. The suite was very nice and it was very cool. The thermostat was completely different so it must have been on a totally different HVAC system. We had friends that were also going to be staying in the hotel that night so we called and told them what was going on so they could know to request a cooler room. They experienced the SAME difficult front desk clerk upon check in. When they asked if the room they were being given was one of the cooler ones the employee simply looked annoyed and shrugged her shoulders. When they got to their room it was 80 degrees so they went down to the front desk and asked what could be done. They told them they couldn't do anything and could only have them turn the air off and open the bathroom. After pushing them, they finally gave them a list of 3 rooms and made Michael take them around from room to room to find the coolest one. The "coolest" one they found was still very warm and it had smaller bed than...
