Attended the Minnesota-Western Illinois football game on September 10. Although the seats were very good and weather beautiful that day had to call out some less than fan friendly items. First when you get to the stadium there is a very long walk up many stairs to get to the concourse area. If you are handicapped or have difficulty walking this is tremendously inconvenient and dangerous. I know they have some service elevators that may be utilized but first you have to locate then hope there isn't a long wait. Don't know why they didn't put escalators in when building this stadium. Can't it be done now? Another issue was with our concession stand called Uff Da. First, lines were long and took us 20 minutes to get served. I know service industry is lacking workers but this was a little extreme. Then, we got to the window my friend took the walleye and fries which in his estimation were terrible. Fries weren't cooked and fish was mushy and didn't have any taste. However, on a positive note I had the Swedish meatballs which were very good and huge portion. Finally their pro shop seemed to be reasonably stocked and prices decent. However, again, once obtaining your merchandise you had to walk up another 30 steps just to pay for it which again is very inconvenient and dangerous. Not everyone is young and able to maneuver walking this route. Time for the U of M to fork out some of their B10 monies to add some escalators and make it more safer and fan friendly. Inside a great venue to watch college football. That is if you can get to your seat...
Read moreA modern, on-campus stadium was something the Gophers had lacked for decades. When this stadium was built, many statements were made about fan support, recruiting gains, and overall success. While some of these have been fulfilled, or improvements have been made, the U still has work to do to be a perennial Big Ten contender.
While this stadium leans toward a more modern appearance on the inside, its exterior pays homage to Memorial Stadium's brick facade. The arched entries, named for Minnesota's counties, are an excellent, and appropriate, touch. The sightlines are good from most any bench or seat, and the scoreboards and ribbon boards provide pertinent game information. Concession offerings aren't expansive, but serve what you'd expect at a football stadium.
The NHL Stadium Series games between the Wild and Blackhawks were very enjoyable; it was so exciting to again see some of our North Stars heroes back on the ice for the alumni game--I never thought, as a kid, heartbroken when they moved, that I would see it. To have the Wild beat the star-studded Blackhawks amid flurries that Sunday was as it ought to be!
As a native Iowan, UI alumnus, and ardent Hawkeye fan, I enjoy coming here for football games to see our teams battle for the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy. While the pig loves his Iowa home, we must endeavor each year to retain him. “We figured we’d take Floyd with us and leave the timeouts here." --Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz,...
Read moreThis stadium is AMAZIING. It is a huge improvement over the Metrodome. It has a very large beautiful exterior of the stadium with a great view of the field outside on the open end of the stadium. This is a college stadium with a college fell to it so be prepared. The sight lines are beautiful all the way around. TCF Bank Stadium has 5 main entry gates (not including the gate to get to the club seats and suites etc). Gates A, B, D, and E are open to the public Gate C (Closed end of the bowl) is a STUDENTS ONLY gate if you do not have a Student ID you cannot enter through that Gate. As well chairback seating is limited to the upper and lower decks from Goal line to Goal line appx the rest of the stadium is bleachers and Sections 111 -131 and 222 - 230 is the student section so again only students. The only problems I have is there is only on concourse for the entire stadium so if the event is anywhere full it is a nightmare, as well parking (if you don't have season ticket parking near the stadium) and the only tailgating parking available for single game use is the St. Paul lot on the State Fairgrounds but there is a free shuttle running to and from the stadium. DISCLAMER : This review is only for Golden Gopher Football, other events (Vikings Football, Soccer, concerts etc) vary by event. Parking is available at various locations on and off campus and may change due to availability or changed made by...
