Firstly, note that the 700 pays tenants for good reviews by giving money, gift cards, and free food/drinks, before they've lived there long enough to notice any issues. Unsure about that? Just look at the number of likes the good reviews have, compared to the bad ones. Very telling.
Most importantly, the management is HORRENDOUS. Having been here during multiple managers/office staff, I can confirm that the current management is by far the worst. Essentially, things are fine only as long as nothing goes wrong. I constantly see people having an issue with or having to argue with management over things like packages, etc, to which the manager will not budge, so there is a common denominator there.
**When informed about about a severe, lease-violating issue regarding a roommate (randomly assigned by the way) and their pet, they did not do a single thing about it. The manager was informed dozens of times in a plethora of ways - in person, over email, via the front desk staff - to which he pretended his hands were tied and ghosted all forms of contact. When the reality is, it seems he only cares about doing as little work as possible. Congratulations on not doing your one job.
I feel sorry for whoever gets the unit I stayed in because the floors were covered in ANIMAL FECES AND URINE EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the management knew the entire time but refused to do anything about it. They simply do not care. Incompetent and negligent to say the least.**
You are paying a lot of money. You pay $100 in utilities monthly, even if the apartment is shared with multiple people. There are completely unnecessary fees tacked on, such as a $100 "green fee". You pay for the entire month of August, despite the fact that you only get to stay there a few days during August, EVEN if you are resigning. This means the additional hassle of moving all your items out, finding another place to stay just for a couple of weeks, then moving everything back in. And on top of all that, the price increases over $100 each year.
Additionally, sometimes upon submitting maintenance requests, management will just immediately hit 'Resolved' so they don't have to deal with it. This happened multiple times with several different...
Read moreApartment is not good. I have a couple of complaints.
Firstly, we’ve been noticing cockroach nymphs sporadically. We decided to notify the apartment’s exterminator when my roommate went into the kitchen to find a whole intrusion of cockroach nymphs in the sink. When they arrived all they did was come over for two minutes spraying minimal chemicals in the corners of the apartment and setting up a couple small roach traps. I still see roaches on occasion so I know they are still around. and apparently my roommate saw some rodent at some point.
Secondly, sometimes the email notices for events are very late notice. There was an email notice for a fire drill an hour before. I think everyone was caught by surprise.
Thirdly, the apartment is above Sally’s which is a popular university bar. It is very loud fridays and saturdays during the academic term and on special occasions. Also on occasion there are undergraduate students yakking right outside the apartment (but this is uncontrollable).
Fourth, everytime there is a package that is left in the vestibule, I carry it all the way to the front desk so that it does not get stolen. I have not seen anyone steal anything yet, but I do it just in case. I hope there is a better way for packages to be taken in, especially since, the front desk staff is sometimes not there during hours/when the package arrives.
Fifth, utility bills seem to stay the same even though no one was in the apartment.
Sixth, when I moved in the aparment it was cleaned minimally. The vents were covered in dust and the walls in the bathroom were covered in mysterious short curly hair. I had to clean everything myself.
Seventh, the sink easily clogs. My previous roommate comtacted the apartment but they said they couldn’t do anything about it.
Eighth, parking is impossible. It is super expensive to park under the apartment in their garage (around 125 per month I think). I parked my car on the street beside the apartment and in the middle of the night it got hit and run (exceeding 5 thousand in damages).
Ninth, roommate almost got mugged right outside apartment. :/
Lastly, management apparently is bad. Personally, I have not had experiences with them, but I have heard from multiple people who live here.
Overall...
Read moreThe apartment has absolutely terrible conditions! There are almost always people smoking hanging near the doors at night. On the weekend nights, there is a high chance of encountering drunk people wandering around around both outside and inside, thanks to the nearby Sally's Saloon. Some fall asleep in the public rooms and computer lab. Over a 6-month period, I saw at least 3 puddles of vomit that I remember, one of which was in the elevator, and remained the elevator for half a day (ugh!).
Aside from that, since it's extremely easy to enter, homeless people sometimes get in. One old Asian man in particular seems to come in once every few nights. With a large number of grocery bags filled with unknown items, he often spends the night in the computer lab. However, he's extremely wary; I entered the nearby study room while purposely banging the door early in the morning, and he immediately ran away. Whatever he's looking at on those computers, it's not something he can browse openly.
The residents love to party, and unfortunately, the soundproofing is poor. As a result, being a light sleeper, many nights I was unable to fall asleep until 2-3 AM, and was often woken up by people screaming the halls after their parties finished.
The maintenance team got lucky - there's one guy there that's very diligent. However, one diligent guy is only one. I haven't seen anyone else cleaning. Because of that, the hallways usually smell of habitation, and the elevator floors are almost always covered in dust/dirt.
The management is a complete and utter mess. The online rent payments often go missing, so the staff had no choice but to encourage residents to pay by check. However, they are often late to mark rent as paid, so the residents sometimes get mistaken emails accusing them of not paying rent. One of my friends, sadly, had his payment go missing, so he had to pay twice that month!!
Absolutely do not stay here. You'll have to go through the trouble of moving out again...
