While booking the reservation with Emily she was very helpful and informative! I informed her I was coming in for surgery and also I cant have a room with mold as I am very allergic. Also it was surgery I drove 6 hrs for and I didn't want it canceled if they thought I was sick! Emily stated there was a couple issues with 1 or 2 rooms that had been fixed main floor. Lobby seemed nice and clean. I took the second floor just in case mold and breakfast was on that floor. Lee was there when i arrived. He I formed me my driver's license didn't look like me. He kept looking and comparing and waving about my liscense. Ok, that's his job. I asked about check out time and asked for extension, which he said he could do. As i'm in for a medical procedure he asked about shuttle. I said I would call in the morning (Emily also told me the hotel shuttle doesn't run until 7:00. Lee insisted on calling. He kept going on about offending me with the liscense. I said it's after 3 am I just wanted to get situated. That I had kids in van and had to be to hospital at 5:30 am. Room seemed nice and clean I set stuff down went to bed as I was very tired. Mold: I didn't realize this until 4 am as I got up my stuffy nose. I went to shower. Opened curtains looked up MOLD! I went to talk with Lee, showed him pics of mold as my husband and kids were sleeping. He told me it was residue and then looked at photos again stated it was mold. He had me confused with someone else, bringing up other stuff. As he realized it was me he began over apologizing for the liscense thing. I asked it to do dropped several times, even at 3 something when I arrived! He did then bring up shuttle and that they don't have one until 7am. I reminded him that I spoke with Emily about this (which I brought up at checkin!!) He said there isn't an Emily there and looked to see so booked the room. He said something about new staff. I went to call shuttle and he insisted on calling (after he said he couldn't) I brought up the late checkout, he seemed oblivious to my 3:25 or close request. He said he couldn't look on computer as he was running an audit (but he could pull my info up to see who booked me in!!) I'm annoyed by all the confusion, overly tired and just wanted to review my medical info while waiting for shuttle. He kept talking while I was reading (I did politely say hey I need to review this). He continued to talk. Again with the liscense stuff!! He informed me that I could have a discount but had to wait for mgr. I gave info to my husband as I was having surgery and couldn't go back. The hotel took off $30.00 according to my husband. Which is why there are stars.
I normally don’t post negative reviews, but the previous reviews and the owner’s relies are totally misleading. This hotel is shabby at best. The fourth floor either smelled weird or bad for each of the four nights I was there. The owner’s replies to previous reviews mention renovations, but the fourth floor’s carpet is dirty and scrunched up around each door.
One day, housekeeping didn’t change my sheets. I didn’t have anything on or near the bed, so I can’t figure out why. I was also in the room when the housekeeper came by one day, and the “cleaning” she did was minimal effort. She sprayed something twice in the bathroom, cleaned the toilet bowl, and left.
There must be no soundproofing, because I could hear my neighbors (side and below) very clearly, and I could hear EVERYTHING in the hallway. While I was there, the fire alarms seemed to be malfunctioning, and were periodically going off for around 30 minutes early one morning. If you are in a room facing the back, good luck getting good sleep; the train crossing bells go off EIGHT TIMES each hour (trains going both directions arrive every fifteen minutes). Between the train signals, my neighbors, the fire alarm, and the noise in the hallway, I got horrible sleep throughout my stay.
The TV is tiny, like 28” at most. No full length mirror, and the single mirror in the room was hung up halfway behind the TV. Two of the plugs were loose so my charging options were limited, and the refrigerator froze my food the first night. The iron leaked water out the side and drenched my outfit one morning. Had to wear something else that day. Then, the replacement iron was gross and had tons of buildup in each of the steam holes.
There were a few staff members who were nice, but when I arrived (Monday night), the plus sized brunette woman had a wildly bad attitude. I pressed the buzzer at the front door, and she said super forcefully through the speaker “open the door!!!” I thought I must have been stupid, that the door must be open and I buzzed her for no reason. But I later figured out the door does indeed stay locked, and while I was checking in, someone else buzzed in and she did the same forceful, “open the door!!!” So it wasn’t just me, that’s how she was speaking to everyone that night. Later on, I told her to have a good night, and she complained that there would be 50 check ins the next day. However, the young white woman with black hair and the older black woman were extremely pleasant though. They were the only redeeming part of this hotel, along with the location. But the positives are far outweighed by the negatives. This hotel is worth $30/night at the most and it is unbelievable that they choose to charge more. Truly the worst hotel I’ve...
Read moreA group of us went to the Michigan vs Minnesota game last weekend and stayed here. We chose this hotel based on location and it was pretty good!
The location can't be beat: proximity to the stadium, quick walk to the bars and breweries near campus, a good Asian restaurant in the same parking lot, and the Light Rail is like, a 2-minute walk away.
The hotel is basic and the breakfast is just OK - although we were overjoyed with the biscuits and gravy Saturday and Sunday mornings!
The rooms are clean. Even with how busy the hotel was on game day, it was quiet. We didn't hear the people in the next room unless they were leaving and the door slammed behind them. We could easily go to sleep at 11pm without any annoyance. The bathrooms have shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The bar soap is a little weird, it doesn't lather well, but it's soap and it works. They give you some decent-quality paper cups for your coffee and in the bathroom, which is appreciated. The shower was actually pretty good with high showerheads, which is nice if you're tall so you don't have to crouch down. Our beds were comfy, if small. The TVs were not great as far as picture quality or sound. The elevators ran quickly enough. The staff was helpful and pleasant: providing directions, giving recommendations, remaking room keys, etc. which couldn't have been easy with all the drunk football fans there.
It's not a luxury hotel. It's a Days Inn. A little better than most of the other Days Inns I've stayed at, but if you're looking for a more pampered experience, look elsewhere. This place delivers a good quality product for the price and location. It is overall a good value for the money.
Two notes: 1) although they advertise a free, local shuttle, the shuttle was out of commission during our stay. Uber/Lyft is easy and cheap enough to order if you don't want to take the Light Rail; and 2) the rear of the parking lot doubles as a tailgate area on game days. It was not loud, but it was a surprise to wake up Saturday morning and see canopies and trucks of people gathered for the game early in...
