I'm giving 3 stars because I rate it average... Nothing out of the ordinary. I'm barely able to walk using a cane or pushing a store cart and was consistently blocked by an employee who could easily have stepped to one side but ignored my pleas of "I'm sorry and excuse me".
No one approached me as I stood by the plastic drawer aisle where nothing had prices on product or shelf tag strips.
The store was messy, and trying to find individual colored pencils which aren't sold many places in Modesto was really time consuming because they were so misplaced.
No one was rude, but no one behaved like they appreciated shoppers or wanted to actually help them. In a arts/ crafts type store there are so many items assistance is even more important than most retail shops because there's so much to see and so many items out of place. Only one cashier was working but another was on the register near the exit but not ringing up people in line. As I was approaching the exit, someone yelled out..."you can't take the cart out" (I had no intention of taking it out.i could barely handle pushing it )
Improvements for increasing profits: Ask people if they're finding everything ok as they shop. Say-"Did you notice all our beautiful silk and plastic potted plants and flowers are half off!..vines too" or something else people might purchase if encouraged like all those rows of candy Can we help you out to your car? There's so much here! Were you looking for anything you couldn't find? General enthusiastic hospitality. I worked in sales for years and know that pep talks to employees boost sales, and enthusiasm is contagious.
What was good??? The air smelled fresh. There were lots of art and crafting supplies. My change was correct. There was a cart available and handicapped parking open. It wasn't too hot or cold inside. Employees looked reasonably neat. I wish I had taken a photo. I see you have a...
Read moreWent to Michael's yesterday and had $150 in my basket to purchase. I was told by an employee to try the new self checkout as it would be faster. My items were ringing up with different prices than marked so I asked for assistance and my light on the self 6 checkout started flashing. No one came to help but 2 employees looked over at me several times. People lining up in regular checkout were helped first. After 15 minutes I left and got in line in regular checkout then the checker left when I got up there and walked away saying she had to make some phone calls. She just left me there in the front of the store by myself after she had helped everyone else. I understand they are short staffed and that's why I am never rude to them but why would you not train the employees to help customers in order and why help 7 people and then walk off when you get to the last one. I waited in line with no help for over 20 min. I then decided to leave and go to Target. I won't shop at Michael's again. I got everything cheaper at Target anyway. It's sad how bad stores have gotten. The employees cater to customers who are rude and complain. If you're nice then you...
Read moreWhile the store DID actually have what I was looking for, it did NOT have hardly anyone inside to help. What should have taken 5 minutes to run in and buy took almost 30 with wandering about and checking out. While there, I saw ONE employee frantically helping as many customers as she could, ONE girl at the register that was 8+ customers deep and no less than FOUR "managers" standing OUTSIDE the entrance to the store talking about holiday strategies.
Here's a bold, new strategy: Help the people who are already IN your store!
Signage was not accurately reflected for current sale pricing at the register, but thankfully the poor girl knew it was an unsolved problem and took care of it immediately. Unfortunately, she couldn't fix the root cause, only salve it as it reoccured...
4 stars for the store and it's selection. Plus one star for the overworked peons trying to actually help, -2 for the incompetence gathered at the doorway... if it takes FOUR managers to solve a problem, your first problem is you have the wrong...
