I keep coming back to Regal Palmetto Grande because of the rewards program, but every visit is a gut-wrenching reminder of how much this theater has fallen from grace. What was once a magical place, where stepping inside felt like entering the vibrant world of The Wizard of Oz, is now a shadow of its former self, desperately in need of a remodel and upgrade. It’s been over 20 years since Regal Palmetto Grande first opened its doors, and in that time, it’s gone from being a community treasure to a neglected relic. The decline is nothing short of heartbreaking, and it’s clear that the current ownership has turned a blind eye to its deterioration.
What’s truly infuriating is that the staff here are nothing short of exceptional. They do their best with what little they have, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. Last year, the AC was out for about 10 months, leaving patrons to swelter in the heat, a situation so dire it even made the local news. Sitting through a movie in stifling heat made it clear that this place was struggling to keep up with even the most basic comforts. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting—stepping into them feels like you’ve wandered onto the set of a Saw movie, with an eerie sense that something’s just not right, like the unsettling world of Get Out. Yet, despite the grim conditions, the staff works tirelessly to keep them as clean as possible given the circumstances.
During a recent visit, the lights went out right at the end of the movie, leaving everyone in complete darkness. Even worse, the theater lights didn’t come on to guide us to safety, which is a serious safety concern. It’s shocking that basic safety protocols aren’t being followed, putting both guests and staff at risk.
When I reported the issue to an employee before leaving, they didn’t just shrug it off—they took the time to explain exactly why it happened, showing a level of customer service that’s nothing short of amazing. These employees care deeply about the experience and safety they provide, but it’s clear that the ownership doesn’t share that same commitment.
It’s outrageous that such a dedicated team is left to work in a theater that’s been allowed to fall into such disrepair. The neglect from those in charge is almost unforgivable. They’re letting Regal Palmetto Grande rot while the staff does everything they can to keep it alive. Ownership should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen. If they won’t step up and invest in the necessary upgrades, then they should do everyone a favor and sell to someone who will. This theater deserves better. It was once a shining star, like Oz in its prime, and with the right care, it could be again. But under the current ownership, that seems like a...
Read moreAfter having twins two years ago, my husband and I finally got a babysitter so we could go see a movie like we used to, we used to go to the West Ashley theater because it’s closer to James Island and we’ve never experienced an issue like we did at this Mount Pleasant theater. We went here because they had an earlier time available for the movie I wanted to see than West Ashley one did, I find it ironic that we finally get a “parents night out” and then a theater fails the way that this one did. The lights in the theater turned on halfway through the movie, everybody looked around confused wondering what we were supposed to do and expecting the lights to turn back off, they never turned back off. We all got used to it I guess and just continued watching the movie. Well when there is about 30 minutes left of the movie, the screen turned black, but the sound kept playing, myself, and a few others walked to the concession stands and told what we believe was a manager what was going on and that it had been happening for a while, but we were just waiting patiently thinking they would know it was going on and fix the situation. About five minutes later, he did fix the screen, but he never reminded it. So we waited a few more minutes for it to rewind and this didn’t happen, myself and a few others, yet again, went to the concession stand, but the manager was gone so we told some of the employees that they still had not rewinded it, they assured us that the manager was rewinding the movie and that’s why he wasn’t back yet, he never did, we all had to just deal with missing a large part of the movie, there were no employees to be found when the movie let out and I feel like I’ve been cheated of $30+. Not to mention the slow pace the employees work at and the theatre being radically hot, I was sweating and one of the girls I met who was talking to a manager with me was as well. I’m sure we weren’t the only ones. I’ve never been this kind of person, but I believe I deserve a refund or tickets to see another movie. Very...
Read moreWe were the guest to see a special viewing of the BLACKENING...a black horror comedy. The greeter was kind but when I Went to get snacks I could tell something wasn't right, these white Kids had the look that I've seen many times from old racist white people, never once were we offered a smile or a thank you ,they told us that our soft Pretzels were ready at the end Of the counter but when we got there ,there were no Pretzels cooked at all and they Wasn't very apologetic at all just saying it will be done in 7 minutes but the $70,00 had already been spent and the movie had already started after Being at the counter so long while they act as though they didn't want to be there and didn't want to serve us from the start so we left saying that we would come back for the Pretzels once in our seats we noticed people were complaining that this is the only place in the building that was HOT ,someone turned the A/C OFF in this section or closed all the vents not only was it uncomfortable watching the movie, but someone turned the Sound down. It was about 99% black people There but the white people there were complaining just as loud, it was white people saying If this was an all white movie this would never have happen. And they were saying it in an apologetic tone . After the movie we returned for Those expensive soft Pretzels Those who didn't want to serve us before tried to give us two Pretzels that had gotten COLD AND HARD I asked could they be heated they just took them Without saying a word and went to the back for over 5minutes when they came back the Pretzels were slightly warm But tough like beef Jerky it was Disgusting for that much money . From the front counter to our seats we felt that we were not Truly welcomed. many people said that they would not return There, After dirty looks and poor service at the counter and Perspiring watching a movie And $70,00 spent on snacks I don't think I'll travel there with my...
