one of the best gyms to work out at in new york city, hands-down, see details below -excellent access by mass transit via the 1 or the A train, there is a Marshalls directly across the street so you can also get some shopping done -yes this gym is crowded however they do have a lot of machines so you can always get onto something very quickly -there is a large section of cardiovascular equipment and there is a very small amount of leg machines which means that there's always a queue if you want to train your legs. this is not a good thing. note however that they do have two seated leg-extension machines, which is obviously very popular, so that does help. -overall I sensed a positive attitude and mood at this gym (this is very important) -most of the girls and guys at this gym are very good looking (if you care about that sort of thing) -every single machine that I saw in the gym floor worked. i don't know why people are saying stuff is broken. i did not see a single machine that was broken (feb '25) during my visit -excellent temperature control. i was wearing a simple T-shirt and shorts and i did not feel too hot nor too cold during a hard workout session. this was on a day when the temperature was in the 20s and there was light snowfall outside in feb '25 -the front desk staff was nice to me when I checked in. there was a girl at the front who went out of her way to help me as I had a personal need -many people are saying that this gym is this and that and so on and so forth in terms of complaints however the energy here combined with the fact that every single machine worked WITH fluid motion throughout the rep, and having people jump on and off so you could get your cycle in means that it is by far one of the best places to work out in manhattan, bar none. yes, there is room for improvement in some areas, however the core needs of any person wanting to exercise and get in shape are present here which is the most important thing: positive energy, every single machine is working, excellent temperature control, and you can always get in a quick set even when it's crowded, as every gym is in...
Read moreI gave only 2 stars because although the gym has all the equipment you would need, it's rare that you get to use any of it. 1) Gym equipment is supposed to be "first come, first serve" but members use their water bottles and book bags to "reserve" equipment that they are not using while they are on the other side of the gym. Your choices are to start using the equipment and then have to argue when the person comes back to say they were working there, or avoid every machine where you see a lonely water bottle, bag or towel. Last time I checked, that water bottle doesn't pay for a gym membership every month, and I do. Management seems to do nothing about this. I even spoke to someone at the front desk, and he admits that he's guilty of "reserving" machines the same way when he works out. 2) For those of us who actually wait in line for equipment, you sometimes have to wait up to 25 minutes for a specific piece of equipment. Even though there are 3 squat racks, they are almost NEVER available. The problem is, the more racks you add, the more people expect to have their own rack to themselves, the more people start doing exercises that aren't squats, and the less people will expect to share a machine when the gym is crowded. Also, a lot of women are doing squats nowadays, and they don't feel comfortable sharing machines with men. This added wait time between machines can easily turn a 45 minute workout into an hour and a half workout, which can mean the difference in how productive you are OUTSIDE the gym. Most of us only have a few hours a day of productive time. The bottom line is that this gym, like many others, is willing to take new members money even after the gym is at maximum capacity. Then after they let the gym get overcrowded, there is no one doing any crowd control or setting any rules. Mind you, I'm not even talking about the after work 5pm to closing mob, this is MORNING TIME to AFTERNOON I'm...
Read moreUPDATE #2: Thank you for the response, and for fixing a few pieces of equipment. But when I asked when the spin bikes would be getting straps back on, I was told that they would not be put back on. Ever. That it was too easy for them to break. The spin bikes are a big reason why I come here vs competitors. It's ridiculous to not have a crucial part of the equipment added. This is important for good technique and an effective ride. (Also - one of the spin bikes is still missing a monitor) Please provide working spin bikes. We all pay membership fees for working equipment. ....... This location needs some TLC. Several pieces of equipment have been "on the blink" for weeks, with no sight of being fixed. Weight area has become packed even during low points of the week.
Biggest issue is the lack of care and attention to wear and tear on the equipment. Get someone in here to fix this!
Pics added: both spin bikes are missing straps, one spin had the monitor ripped off, another broken resistance machine
Love this new location. Clean, tidy, lots of equipment to chose from. I haven't ventured over to the weights area but it seems there's a lot of room which is good. Only downside is the VERY slow elevator. But other than that, good gym. For sure glad I picked this over other...
