I had a horrible experience with this store. On Cyber Monday, I called the store to ask a question about a product and was given a very rude response. They did not have time to explain the item. I finally just decided to take a chance and buy the item online. When I had not received the item by December 16th, I emailed to ask for an update. I was told that they had received hundred of orders and that they were expecting a 3-4 week turn around time. When I explained that we were approaching week four and that I was concerned about getting the item on time. All I got were short answers with no specifics of when I might get it or alternatives other than cancelling the order. So, after 6 emails with little to no response, I called. The man I spoke with was being fed answers by someone else whom I asked to talk with and they told me no. All the person said was that this is the way it is and that I could not change the shipping address and I could not upgrade my order to overnight shipping and if I wanted to cancel that was my option. I said I did not want to do that. After hanging up with the very rude man, I went back to the website where it said Priority shipping is available upon request. So, I sent an email requesting for priority shipping. 5 minutes later I received an email saying my order has been cancelled. I then called the store back saying I did not want it cancelled and they said that was too bad. There was nothing they could do and that it was their prerogative to cancel the order and if I wanted to replace the order it would be another 4 weeks to fill it. When I said I was going to make a complaint, she said fine and hung up on me. I will never do business with this shop again. They are not customer friendly at all. Once they knew they were running behind the right thing would have been to notify everyone who placed an order, apologize for the delay an give them options well enough in advance of Christmas for them to consider getting...
Read moreThis shop has been in the East Village for years. I recall it being in a different location a while back; I think prior to the last big hurricane we had. Overall this shop has the second best selection of tarot decks in the city that are stocked on site.
The candles are great and they do have the best selection of in store ritual supplies (think incense, oils, etc.). The books are ok but they do tend to stock a lot of the generic witch stuff by Llewellyn Publishing. Those types of books are readily available at most major book retailers such as B & N. But I guess they need the local teenage witchtok and NYU crowd to keep the electric bills paid.
The really good materials - meaning the classics of Western Magick - are well stocked and that is very good. I purchased a lot of Dion Fortunes hard to find novels here.
They do have bad attitudes though. Not everyone but most of them and that is why I give only two stars. Last time I was there I wanted to see their copy of The Book of Abramelin, the Georg Dehn edition.
It was so dirty and the pages had black dirt stains from them having had it jammed into a staff only book shelf (you had to ask them to get the volumes on the shelf for you) for who knows how long. They wanted almost twice its actual cover price. That was laughable to say the least.
One is much better ordering off of Amazon for books and as for ritual supplies if you need it right away and are unable to make it yourself sure, why not. The candles and their candle making classes are a great resource for those who might just be getting started. But the bad attitudes by most of their staff is just way too much to make it worth it. There are other local occult shops with more inviting staff in NYC...
Read moreBack in October 2024, I had a calling to come and do some clearing work in New York and frankly, not being from the U.S., it was all a little overwhelming. I went to pay them a visit and the insight I received was wonderful. They gave me a vial of Chupparosa to help reopen my heart as it had been during a tough moment in my relationship and I feared I was closing myself when I needed to go in with my heart. I came back a few times. I was guided to check out Oshun and bought Oshun bathsalts and an Oshun oil.
Once, I came to inquire about Hekate, but they were closed (my fault for not checking their schedule), but as I sat on the concrete side, wondering what I should do next, I noticed the cafe next door was not only open, but called Hekate. I think Oshun was with me a lot those days. I happened to be at the right place at the right moments and met the people I was supposed to to help me on my journey. I was able to do what I came here to accomplish and I strongly believe Enchantment played aan important part in guiding me without holding my hand the whole time. I feel more confident in myself and what I can do.
Fast forward almost a year from then, I had a visit at night. In the morning I got my Ascended Masters Oracle deck and asked who had come to visit. I pulled the card in the picture. Oshun is still with me. Thank you for introducing her to me. I'll be sure to come back next time I'm in New...
