Galleria Nail Salon — Local services in New York

I've been a loyal customer of this salon for two years and while the owner is lovely, the service and interior has gone downhill. My experience last week was the tipping point and I won't be returning.

I'd never seen this employee there before, but after paying $50(!!!) for a REGULAR pedicure, she tried to skip the 10-minute massage, which is a huge portion of the service. I called her out on it, especially given the ridiculously overpriced service and she reluctantly did it, but the sheer laziness was off-putting.

I stupidly decided to continue with her services and got a gel manicure to see if it would redeem the experience. She didn't seal the edges of the nails, so it chipped ONE day later. Normally, I would've gone back for them to fix it, but I honestly have no desire to set foot in there ever again, especially after the last service.

Lastly, I've known it's a no-frills salon and not a luxury spa, but the place has gotten FILTHY. The foot basin was disgusting, there's dirt and dust everywhere, and I'm pretty sure they haven't cleaned in months. It's an infection waiting to happen and if you're charging those insane prices, at least ensure basic cleanliness.

This salon has been on the decline for awhile now and I'm honestly really upset by my last experience. I don't normally write reviews and I genuinely feel bad for leaving one, but the owner witnessed all of this and said nothing. This was my second experience getting a pedicure ever. I’m a man in my 20s - it doesn’t take much to satisfy me and I’m not super critical. I just thought I’d stop by one of the top rated nail salon in the neighborhood on a day off as a way to relax.

Long story short - maybe 15 min into my pedicure I saw a couple of roaches crawling on something from the corner of my eye. I can’t remember what exactly it was that they were crawling on, but it was maximum, 2 feet away from me.

After the women who was servicing me realized what I was seeing, she rushed to kill it as her colleague rushed over as well to kill and cover it up so the other customer in the room didn’t see it.

She tried to continue her work but i was so unsettled that I just couldn’t comfortably sit down anymore. I started getting ready to leave as she’s kinda begging me to stay so she can finish.

I honestly should of walked out without paying but I’m just not that person, so I continued to pay the full price of $37 for a basic pedicure. The women didn’t offer me a discount at all and said “it’s ok, you don’t have to tip me”. She also continued to ask and call me sensitive (“you must be sensitive? ohh, sorry, your so sensitive”)

Only giving this salon 2 stars because the ladies who work here are sweet - but overall I had a very negative experience that I cannot ignore. First, right off the bat, I noticed the salon was dirty and dusty and that they had a very limited number of color options (powder and gel). Second, my dip manicure started out okay until the tech started digging deep into my cuticles and cutting them until my cuticles were red and slightly bleeding. I voiced my discomfort and she said “haven’t you had a dip manicure before?” as if pain is an unavoidable part of getting powder. She would not relent at all and it was overall a really unpleasant experience that I was praying would end asap. The tech also touched my nails before they completely dried so they came out smudged, completely ignoring the 10 minute she set. But the main reason I am writing this review is because I have had this dip powder manicure for LESS THAN 48 HOURS and it has already started to CRACK, which has !!!!!never!!! happened to me before. This is unusual and not okay - I consider it a form of robbery. The owners of this place need to do a serious review of how they give manicures, especially with dip. Don’t offer it if you don’t know what you’re doing! And don’t dismiss people’s pain! Especially when you charge such high prices. So disappointed. Please do not waste your time...
