As regarding Auschwitz Exhibition: a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those of us who, having never left this country and likely never will, can now view the epitome up close and personally in one place under one roof. Everything, EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about the town going back to medieval times, the original land grant, the many times it became a part of one country or another, the Armistice of 1918, its development as a major rail hub and designation as a concentration and extermination camp. Hundreds of chilling original personal artifacts and utilitarian objects including a giant steel cauldron and wooden paddle used to prepare soup to feed a precise number of inmates. Spread over three floors, it will take you hours to process this purposely dimly-lit horror show. A treasure grove of documents, maps, charts and photos displayed in the original German language. Not for the squeamish! The tamper-proof Zyklon B cyanide pellet chimney-like chute, a photo array of the entire camp hierarchy, the epitome of evil: a section of camp bunks, inmate uniforms, color charts explaining the meanings of patches. Every time you feel you have had enough, seen and experienced enough, there is more, more and more. An absolute must-see presentation. Not to be missed! I have been to scores of exhibitions over a lifetime but nothing, absolutely nothing compares with the the precious, priceless artifacts displayed here each with a remarkable story. I only wish they could have developed a comprehensive catalog of every item shown. Nothing prepares you for this experience which you may have heard or read about. A truly momentous undertaking put together seamlessly in the most understated way. The first time was a preliminary overview. I realize now I will...
Read moreAfter reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris, I wanted to get more information about this terrible time in history. The exhibit was very informative, educational and emotional. The reason why this didn't get 5 stars was because of the service provided by the staff. I purchased a ticket for a 7 pm time-slot. The exhibit closes at 9 pm. During my time going through the exhibit, you don't realize the time. I was interrupted by a security guard letting me know that the museum was closing and I had to make my way to the exit to leave. I was at exhibit 40 thinking that it was almost done, especially after being told it is time to leave. While walking to the exit, i looked up and realize there was soooooo much more of the exhibit to view. I went to customer service where I explained to them the situation of not being able to view what I had payed for and was thoroughly enjoying. The manager's response was "I can give you a discounted ticket for the next time you come." This was not what I was expecting ESPECIALLY when a 7 pm time- slot is available online for viewing yet you are being kicked out a quarter to 9 pm. A free ticket should have been the response. When I mentioned this, the manager's response was "If I give you a free ticket, I'd have to do it for everyone else." WELL... yes rightfully so! On the website it mentions no refund...OK, understandable...however; I payed to see the full exhibit...not half of it before being forced to leave because they were closing. So if you are planning on going to see the exhibit, please make sure you go...
Read moreThe only reason i give to this fine museum 2 stars is because of the little food section there. The museum by himself is very nice and educational but DO NOT...i repeat...DO NOT go to eat in that little coffee/branch/bagle place there. Why? They simply try to rip you off! The guy was nice and all during our eating time there but when i had to pay, i noticed he hold himself from giving me the recite, so i ask for it anyway. I noticed he charged me for lots of stuff i didn't took and even a whole item i didn't ask for. He apology and all but little he knew that I'm not a sucker and i got his little trick/scum. But i am worry that he try that little trick with more than just me. Think about it...8 out of 10 tourists will not pay attention to the recite.... He maybe apology and give the money back without argue at all with 2 tourists, but 8 tourists will loose their money to those guys. The museum is fantastic...highly recommended....but my advice to this museum is to replace the coffee shop guys or even the whole coffee shop business there. Till then, my advice to the tourists....schedule your branch...
