BREAK-IN AND THEFT @ 1 WEST STREET!!! I felt strongly that this required public attention as a last-ditch effort to expose this building and help someone else avoid what happened to us.
My boyfriend stayed in one of the executive furnished apartments at 1 West Street in FiDi managed by the Moinian Group. When he returned from a work trip in April 2022 we found out that someone from Blueground (the company managing the furnished rental) had entered his apartment using one of their spare keys (WITHOUT his knowledge or approval) and stole a sweater worth $1250.
The police were called and a report was filed. They took it very seriously (a theft over $1000 is a felony) and an investigator was assigned to the case but neither Blueground nor 1 West Street would accept fault for the theft, even though there was proof/evidence that an employee from Blueground had entered his apartment the day the theft occurred. Blueground acknowledged that one of their staff entered the property (they couldn’t deny it, there are cameras all over the building) but they’re denying that the theft occurred.
Luckily (you’d think) property insurance is built into their rentals, but it has now been over 4 months since he vacated the property and filed an insurance claim through them but to this day they have not provided a credit.
The level of disappointment and shock with this company and 1 West Street is beyond belief…. an employee of theirs broke into our apartment and committed a felony theft yet they’re refusing to accept fault and trying to avoid covering the loss through their insurance.
Take from this what you will, but if you decide to rent from this company or stay in this building, use extreme caution.
It’s a horrible feeling not to feel safe in your own home or having to hide expensive items when you leave your place, as we had to do after this incident until he moved out...
Read moreNEVER stay at the Ocean building. Their management comes from hell and does not care about you or your needs. They won't even give you a full name of who you are talking to, to file an official complaint against their employees.
Firstly, I paid my full rent in advance to stay in their "luxury" building and when my lease was up, I asked if I could extend my lease for six more months because I am an international student and that's all my visa allows. They said no. But after pleading and pleading, they agreed to let me stay in the smallest studio apartment known to man if I pay $300 extra each month to "make up for the manpower it will take to find a new tenant in the middle of the year." The new rent adds up to $2700 a month for a TINY STUDIO in this so-called luxury building.
Then, a mysterious $100 bill shows up after I have paid for my utilities. I email them since I already paid my full rent in advance and don't get charged for anything else other than my utilities. After a lot of back and forth, I ask to speak with them on the phone, and this lady is literally screaming at me, showing me attitude, saying it's "only $100 and I shouldn't make a big deal." Umm....it's my $100. My hard earned money and the management has the audacity to say that to me. I highly highly NOT recommend getting an apartment in this building. Do not fall...
Read moreWhen I moved in, the toilet was broken, the curtains had holes in them. The floor was dirty and scratched. The list was very long. I had to call quite a few times for maintenance because of these problems, and the doormen became very impatient.
In general, doormen do not add value to the building except for saying hi and occasionally holding the door for people, expecting additional tips around $100 per person per year.
One of them picks tenants to ignore and bully. When I asked to put in a maintenance request, he said to the maintenance person: “AGAIN”, shortly after I turned around. Maybe because I’m an Asian woman that put in quite a few maintenance requests because the apartment is shitty, and I look not intimidating.
A neighbor was always loud at night, wall was shaking with loud music, but noise complaints to the doorman or management were routinely ignored or dismissed.
They also did not return deposit within legally required 14 days, until you remember to threaten an AG complaint (thank goodness I’m a licensed attorney in New York)
The same doorman also ignored me for an hour there until I called again to get someone to check me out upon move out.
Highly doubt if the good reviews were engineered by the management after rooftop events.
Did not post before for fear of retaliation. Posted after I finally moved...
