I am a long-time customer who regularly shops at your store and have generally enjoyed the experience. However, I am very disappointed by a recent issue that has made me reconsider continuing to shop with you.
Last week, I purchased my usual groceries along with a specific imported cheese I was excited to serve for Father's Day. The cheese was sealed, showed an expiration date of February 2026, and was stored in a cooler bag for only 20 minutes before being refrigerated at home.
Today, upon opening it, the cheese emitted a strong, moldy odor and crumbled apart in a way that clearly indicated it had not been stored properly before purchase. I am very familiar with this type of cheese, having had it many times since childhood, and I know it was not in a safe or edible condition.
I brought the cheese and my receipt back to the store and explained the situation. Unfortunately, the manager informed me that returns are only accepted within 24 hours — a policy that does not account for the nature of this issue or the product's shelf life. This cheese cost $10.99, and I don’t believe I should bear the cost of poor handling or improper storage of dairy products, which could potentially pose a health risk.
This experience has left me deeply disappointed not only by the product quality but also by the dismissive customer service response. As a result, I no longer feel confident shopping at your store and will be taking my business elsewhere. I also feel a responsibility to share my experience so that others are aware of potential food safety risks.
I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review your handling practices and return policies for...
Read moreIn general this is a good store - wide selection of fruits/vegetables, open 24/7, and they have most of the other stuff you'd expect - though not nearly the same section or price as the Stop & Shop 1 block away. However, I hold a grudge because of how they try to avoid NY's bottle deposit law.
I go there at least twice a week and, among other things get Ronnybrook/FarmFriend/Straus glass-bottled milk. Each bottle has a 2USD deposit, so it's worth putting it through the dishwasher & returning. A backpack full of glass bottles is about 20USD off my grocery bill and the bottling company gets to reuse them directly.
Every single time I've tried to bring bottles back I've gotten resistance. The first time, they said they don't take them, so I gave up until I read through the text of the Bottle Bill... It turns out they are required to accept any container they sell, up to 240 per person/day (a limit I'm nowhere near hitting).
The second & third times it worked, but only after the cashier called over other employees and I showed them that they did sell that brand of milk. On the fourth time the cashier had to call over another cashier and then the manager. They took half the bottles, but refused to accept Ronnybrook bottles (even though I bought them from their store) and only took the half-gallon glass bottles after I showed the manager that I was buying the exact same type & brand of bottle that I was returning.
I shouldn't need to spend this much time explaining to their employees how the bottle deposit system works. Also, this is not just one employee who's screwing up - I've gotten a different cashier each time I tried to...
Read moreBig, nice and convenient grocery especially if you live within proximity to it like me. I have had good n bad experiences here.
I will say. One day There was this one Mexican male cashier who seemingly was sloppy at his job. Didn't charge me for some of the items got there. I am sure it wasn't intentional but he just didn't seem like he even wanted to be there. He only scan 2 to 4 items then just everything in the bag like he didn't even care.
The problem to me wasn't the fact that I ended up getting away with some free stuff as a result. I am or was just worried that he would make different mistake that wouldn't be pretty at all. This a while back.
Either hes just no longer working as a cashier there or is no longer employed there.
I do agree with a comment on here about a language barrier problem I have experienced it at another grocery store tashknet in coney Island avenue which is blocks away. They should work on that issue. I understand that most people working here English is a second language but if your gonna dealing with English speaking customers then you should work on improving English to better serve or just ask for clarification.
Wish they would offer meat section where you can buy meat by the lb. Just like tashknet and portakili and maybe more food products to choose from though I understand they are trying to cater more to the Russian and Turkish communities that live a mile or less within this grocery store.
I have met the owner....
