Love it. NYC has its share of seedy parks. This isn't one of them. I've lived across the street since early 2015 and there's so much awesome community activity here.

On the weekday mornings old folks get out in a shady spot on the handball courts and do Tai-Chi or aerobics.

Over the summer kids are playing basketball from 7am to midnight. Never any fighting just playing ball.

On the weekends there's a youth athletic league that puts out food and refs basketball games. There's also an adult softball league that tailgates and BBQs with their families.

That's not to mention the pee-wee football and soccer practice going on during the weekday nights.

On Eid Muslims in the area dress up and walk a sort of Tawaf around the track in back while saying prayers.

Can't say enough good things about how the community...

I just passed by this place couple of weeks ago and I liked what they have done to the dog park: they fenced it 👍❤️ Yep, this park is the best dog park I have ever seen so far throughout NYC. It is so spacious. I do not have dogs (I have Maria the parakeet, and 4 gold fishes that look like baby red snappers 😅).

This park has bathroom for male and female or all gender! Has a track and field like jogging or walking or roller skating(I use it for my inline skating) area. There ancient trees here as well, along with the new ones. A basketball courts, and benches under the shade of leafy trees. I have seen two different individuals brought their hammocks and attached the between two trees and reading book while in laying down on it(I actually been toying to buy a hammock and do the same thing! But, it is still on the brain...

I live two blocks from this park what get me upset about this park and ppl who are apart of the meeting to make the park great don't like ppl bringing their dogs there. They tried to make what looks like a poor job of making a dog park but it not up to code for one. The majority of dog owners I know who bring their dogs use the baseball field when it's not in use and clean up after their and make sure the gate is Secured so dogs can't get out. The dog owners feel a lot better having their dogs in there. If you can get grants and permits to build a restroom then get what's need for a dog park make it better. Taller fence, wood chips...

St. John's Park COULD be a GREAT playground but it is NOT. The reasons? Sloppy maintenance and a lack of attention to detail. Here is why: - soccer goals lack nets - no soccer goals for children- or youth teams - bathrooms locked, you have to go into the bushes. Why are bathrooms LOCKED on a Saturday morning at 10am? - WiFi didn't work. WiFi showed up in list of WiFi networks but we were not able to log on. - running track has narrow corners. Anybody who is a regular runner knows that narrow corners like these will kill your joints - no floodlights + good turf + relatively easy street parking on weekends in the morning

Always an oasis of zen and shade when you need to rest and take in the neighborhood. There is also a bathroom that's usually clean in front of the playground that's open til 4pm most days.
