We have read the reviews when we book this place, generally it is nice ish room with rude and unhelpful receptionist…. And they is true.

The place is a short walk to a subway station with plenty of fast food options around. The neighbourhood doesn’t fell the safest but that’s sort of expected…. So moving on.

As you enter the “hotel”, you are met with a short queue of people checking in by the hour with hourly rate clearly shown. You think to yourself great. You are given your key card and your tv remote, you think okay. You get to your floor and is dark neon purple lighting with loud tv noises from another room….. think you probably know my thoughts at this point…. First thing we did when we enter our room was check for hidden cameras😂, I have never done that ever in any hostel or hotel I have stayed in.

Room was clean enough but the air only have two setting, on or off. Bloody cold even if it set it to 75 degrees.

You cannot leave you bags, well you can, you just pay $50 for early checking as they kept saying when we asked over the phone.

So yeah, you pay what you get for,...

I needed a last-minute place to stay with my children while visiting New York for a few days and I booked for the night at this location. I have to say for something that I needed last minute it works, but overall the neighborhood is very sketchy at night. The fire alarm kept going off, I would say about 2 to 3 times. Also, it was very loud outside. The neighborhood was bumping even at 2:30 in the morning. The room was OK although the shower was kind of tricky to figure out in the morning the house cleaning staff was able to show me how to work it even though she did not speak English so overall, I would say if you’re looking for a quick place that takes cash it was 300 for the night, I would say go ahead and book it, but if you’re looking for something comfortable and secure, I would not suggest this location because I did not even have a privacy lock on my door. It was broken and like I said I was staying with young children so to say that I feel safe I wouldn’t say 100% but like I said it got us...

I was stranded in NYC after all 3 airports were closed, due to weather. There wasn't a room to be had in the city. I was forced to The Umbrella, despite the mixed reviews. OMG I was so happy I ended up there!!!! I had the most wonderful adventures! My room was spotless! The staff was so incredibly kind and sympathetic to my situation! The neighborhood was colorful and welcoming! I don't know when I've had more fun! .... No, The Umbrella isn't fancy. No, the neighborhood isn't chic. .... But the rooms are clean! The staff is wonderful. The neighborhood is interesting..... I'm long past the point in my life where "affordable" is a huge consideration. I'm definitely at the "comfortable" stage in life. I'll be staying at The Umbrella in The Bronx next time I'm in the City! It's where I was made to feel COMFORTABLE! I CANNOT THANK THE STAFF ENOUGH!!! I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! . PS Maybe this isn't a great place to bring small children, as the room are notably...

Spend the extra dollar, stay else where. I get “you get what you paid for” but man. This was brutal. Shower did not work, carpet very dirty, bedding filthy, walls peeling. Construction right outside your window at 5am. Homeless people yelling fighting, feces outside the door step, staff was rude. Room key deactivated every day. The area is bad, really bad. I’m from the armpits of Los Angeles, and I’m use to the hood but this was different. Stay aware of your surrounding, stick to yourself and don’t linger around the area there is no need to. Do NOT stay here if you have kids. Also, it’s pretty far from everywhere so if you plan to travel into the city a lot, this would be a good 50 min train ride to anywhere. We stood in Flushings queens last year, and although the area is also a bit outdated, it was definitely more same and had more convenient locations than this area. And the locals were very polite and helpful.

I stayed here due to a mix up at another local hotel which was at a five star level. This hotel serves people wishing for hourly stays and is not managed well for professional or tourist stays. They have different rate structures for by the hour for day, night … The room was bear bones, phone did not work and had to use my cell phone to call the office to get the WiFi code- which shut off around 9pm. The bathroom shower is not intuitive- supposedly there is a small screw on the base of the tub nozzle to turn to operate the shower- none of this was communicated. The room itself was very worn and sheets were clean but with stains. At night one of the guests got locked out of the room and angrily banged on his door yelling to his friend to open up- not making for a safe setting to leave the room once in until morning. Do not stay here if you have a choice.
