This place is awful they are very rude and seem to hate their jobs They close early all the time they seem to like to lock the doors around 5pm a lot although the hours are til 5:30pm New Years Eve they closed before 4:45 although it was supposed to have normal business hours they said they can close when they want There was a sign on the door about hours but it only talked about hours for Christmas eve, Christmas, and New Years Day when it was brought up to them by a couple people they took the sign down They "lose" mail and packages all the time Packages are delivered to the wrong addresses all the time i cant tell you how often i get other peoples mail (sometimes its the next building over other times it belongs to people that live 15 and 20 minutes away!) Packages are marked delivered but are not then show up 2 days later There has been a sign on my apartment building (2 signs) asking them to not leave packages without being given to the person they belong to but they are still left in the hallway all the time where someone can steal them (one time they left one outside of the building where anyone could take it i mean come on this is brooklyn ny its a busy street they has access to the apartment building and didnt want to use it! This post office should get 0 stars A few months ago i went to pick up a package and waited 25 minutes before someone came to the window to help me although people kept walking past me and all saw me they couldn't even say "be with you in a minute" I have dozens more interactions just like this one but nothing ever changes If i could make sure my mail didnt go here i would even if that ment going 1 or 2 miles away to get my packages
Oh also the rare occasion they dont just leave a package in the building for anyone to take they dont leave pink package slips so i dont even know i need to come pick up a package until i realize its been to long and decide to check tracking and then see they...

For years, this location has failed to adapt to the high volume of prepaid packages. It’s been the same struggle putting them in the drop off window that gets filled up. One of the employees said to me that it “really pisses” them off. Clearly, this system isn’t working for customers or staff.
Considering the revenue USPS brings in daily from prepaid labels, and the amount of packages dropped off at this location, it’s frustrating that basic infrastructure improvements haven’t been made. A larger chute in the lobby, like what other post offices have, or even a temporary solution like a bin by the door left of the windows leading to the back could make a big difference. Right now, watching people play Tetris with their packages at that tiny window is awkward and inefficient.
Customer service is another issue. I honestly don’t care if people aren’t friendly or are having a bad day, but what’s going on here is beyond that. The supervisor and a window clerk were talking about me, with a condescending attitude, while I was standing between them. Based on that and past visits which included eye rolls, being cut off mid sentence, and essentially getting yelled one time, I can sense that it’s a systemic issue and not just about individual personalities. Tolerating and encouraging rudeness as a management style is deeply concerning for any service business. Many reviews say the same sentiment so it’s safe to say that poor treatment of customers is how this location operates.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Staff morale and customer satisfaction would both improve with simple changes—better systems, better leadership, and maybe even self-serve kiosks like other branches have to relieve some employees. Until then, I recommend using a different location—and leaving a review so things might...
Read moreWent in to activate a PO Box since the Shirley Chisholm office keeps losing my mail for weeks at a time. It was around noon on a weekday, so I expected a line. What I did not expect was ONE employee working the entire location. My heart went out to her-- at least until she abandoned her post, hung a handmade "CLOSED" sign on the door, then locked up the building.
That's right. She closed and locked up the building while people were still actively using the location and waiting in line, hours before closing time. She announced that she'd be unlocking the door "every five customers" to let us out, which does not exactly seem up to fire code. Meanwhile, confused would-be patrons with letters and parcels in their arms began pounding on the doors and windows like something out of a zombie movie.
Needless to say, I abandoned the line and escaped as soon as I could.
I don't write a lot of reviews, and I don't like kicking anyone while they're down. I know the pandemic has been rough for the USPS, but there's no excuse for this. The entire Bedstuy/Ocean HIll area has been completely neglected for YEARS now. An occasional mistake is understandable and unavoidable. But I've personally had innumerable mail pieces go missing, and so have many of my neighbors. Any and all issues have been met with utter ambivalence and even aggression from the staff USPS somehow manages to keep.
I'd say "take your business elsewhere," but the Shirley Chisholm office on Fulton is just as bad, if not worse. Official complaints and cases filed online or over the phone are ignored or closed without any explanation.
It's just hard to believe a basic service like THE MAIL could be so outrageously inefficient in the heart of a major city.
Anyway, if you ever have to go here, reward yourself with some Taco Bell up the street when...
