I had a horrible experience at the firearms counter and this seems to be a VERY common occurrence given some of the other reviews I've read with customers having the same experience.
They have a queue system so you can sign in and then roam the rest of the store while waiting. Normally, this would be a good thing... but the implementation at the Bass Orlando location is pathetically bad, and that's putting it mildly.
When I arrived, there were ten people in the queue. I was number eleven. Over an hour later I had moved up exactly TWO spots.
I wish I could tell you how many associates were working at the counter. I know there was one associate who spent the entire time I was waiting helping ONE person. I don't know what was going on, but whatever it was caused this one associate to have to call several others over, wasting more time, on more than one occasion. Other associates would seem to talk to someone, only to disappear in the back for long stretches. The associates who I did see moved slower than the sloths in "Zootopia."
Now... I realize places get busy, especially this time of year around the holidays. But, I'm sorry... servicing exactly TWO customers an hour is ridiculous. At that rate, I figured I would be waiting a minimum of three hours... just to get to the counter. I left, and likely will never return.
The problem is, with the queue system, the associates stick to the one customer and never multitask. Yes, if they are actively assisting the customer then they should concentrate on that customer. But, if that customer is doing something like filling out the 4473 paperwork there's no reason the associate can't start to help another customer while the original customer is in the process of completing the form. Instead, they sit and babysit the entire process and the line grows and grows. I spoke to one of the individuals who was ahead of me in the line (they were number three on the list at this point) and they said they had been waiting over two and a half hours.
Sorry, that's just brutal.
By way of comparison, I usually frequent Florida Gun Exchange in Holly Hill. That establishment is infinitely more busy than Bass Pro... I've been at that location packed to the gills (remember, as slow as the line was moving at Bass Pro, it was only eleven customers including myself) and I daresay that their associates handle five to ten customers an hour individually! They put Bass Pro to shame.
I know it's a good thing to want to give customers individual attention and time, that is good customer service. But when you have a line starting to back up and customers waiting over two hours just to get seen something has to give! These associates just might have to get trained up so they have the ability to do more than one...
Read moreI went to the Orlando Bass Pro Shops on 04/06/2024 to try and sell or trade one of my handguns. Prior to arriving we called the store to verify if they offer this service, the male on the phone said that they would gladly buy our gun or take it on a trade in with no further information given over the phone. When we arrived to the store we brought the firearm in locked up in the plastic Sig box unloaded and stuck it in my girlfriends purse until we reached the gun counter. We waited in line patiently as they spent their time with multiple people who didn’t have the proper documentation to obtain a firearm or even purchase anything until one of the employees acknowledged us and we spoke with an older gentleman with white hair. I politely asked if he would be able to look at my Sig P320 C, and he responded “Oh no, this is not good.” I looked around in confusion while he continued to make it a massive deal. He proceeded to act like we were criminals in my eyes, while the employees around him also seemed confused about why he was making such a big deal about how we brought the firearm into the store. He explained that it wasn’t good that I didn’t check the firearm in at customer service. He then proceeded to tell us that the person who gives the estimates isn’t working. We told the gentleman that we just called and the male on the phone told us to bring it in with no explanation about how to check it in. The firearm never was brought out of the box. My girlfriend attempted to put the unloaded gun inside the box back in her purse and he said “you can’t do that.”. This was honestly a horrible experience and a waste of a trip. We will never come back to the Orlando Bass Pro Shops because we would rather not be treated like criminals. We are law abiding citizens and I’m former LE. I don’t think somebody working at a gun counter in a Florida Bass Pro Shops should act like the New Jersey state law makers. All the male had to do was politely explain that we need to check the firearm in at customer service and this store would have had my business, but unfortunately the older gentleman at the counter made this a bigger deal than this should have been by treating us like criminals and it was honestly embarrassing. We left and immediately went to Orlando FFL and had a great experience. I highly recommend that gun shop if you are in the Orlando area. You are in and out in no time and treated respectfully. Please forward this to the Orlando Bass Pro Shops...
