Please consider that if a person walks in at 7:50pm, they’re probably aware of the time your store closes and might not be planning to be there long. They probably don’t need to be approached at 7:55pm and told “Can I help you find anything because we’re closing in two minutes.” I didn’t need help and had already found my card and was about to head to the register. But honestly, I was annoyed and just left. Maybe consider announcing you’re about to close as a general message to the WHOLE store if you need to. I’ve worked in retail for years and it’s never really nice to target an individual customer and say such a thing. It doesn’t come off as helpful, it comes off as passive aggressive. Going elsewhere from now on for overpriced birthday cards.

By the way, I did tell the lady I was looking for a birthday card for my mom. But I was mostly done. Instead of any recommendations she just noted they were closing in two minutes. We purchased an ornament 3 days ago for our 3 yr old grandson, on Dec. 5, which is WAY BEFORE Christmas and attempted to return it to the store, unopened, in perfect condition, with receipt today because our daughter bought the same ornament for our grandson and the manager would NOT accept our return. We were told that the store will not exchange or credit ANY ORNAMENTS as per their return policy. They did not publicize that policy anywhere in the store, when we purchased it nor is it publicized now. I went into this store in the mall. I said to the sales person, “oh, it’s great to see a Hallmark store again”. “We’re not a Hallmark store!”, she said. I pointed at the sign on the glass. Still irritated, she exclaimed, “Well we carry Hallmark products, but we’re The Paper Store!” I could have said, there isn’t a Paper Store sign out there so how would I know that?
