Michael's now carries a small selection of fabric. Good prices, decent selection, but it has to be taken to framing to cut. They don't have cutting mats at the counter, it has to be taken back to the employees only section. It is also only available in 1 yard cuts. It took a while to get it cut because while they were very precise, it was treated as if it was a framing project (a lot if measure twice, cut precisely against a ruler with slow cuts). And as the employee was also the framing dept person, there were quite a few interruptions. The bolts of fabric also were falling over, as their shelving is not set up to hold bolts of fabric.
All and all, I'm pleased with the fabric I bought, but that it took 20+ minutes to cut it is ridiculous. If you are going to sell fabric, you have to have the ability to cut it out on the floor by an employee who knows how to deal with fabric. I know this is a trial/ experiment, but it was poorly thought out and executed. You should have sought advice from actual Quilters and how to run this. It would go so much better. And you would have better sales.
Further, this was very unfair to the employee who had to deal with the 12 bolts of fabric we brought up. He was very professional, very precise, very friendly, but he had 12 bolts of fabric to cut, and other customers stacking up in the framing Department. It was not fair to put all of this on one person.
Submitted by someone with 40 years quilting experience working in quilt shops and who buys boatload of fabric. I would not normally comment on this, but this has to be frustrating for both the employee and...
Read moreI went into this location yesterday about a custom frame as I had gone into the Dodge Street location Friday night & was less than pleased with the service I received, so I took the few minutes extra drive hoping I'd have better luck & that's when I was met by the amazing Chantel!
I explained about my experience the night before & she had a horrified look on her face, she explained that Customer Service is her utmost priority. I had the piece with me this time & she took her time going through different options with me & even suggested the girl the night before at the other location could've gone the extra mile without my poster working with the Facebook pic I had of it & the dimensions & WITHOUT the negative attitude.
It was because of the time she took with me & her positive attitude that I was fine with her helping customers simply picking up. I was very hesitant & she definitely took her time, this was a big deal for me. She told me that she helps with matching the right frame to the picture when she can for the ones who want to buy a frame from the aisle & they have the option to do matting for an additional charge with the limited but available ready to mat options.
Overall the experience I had with her was FANTASTIC & added to my excitement to receiving my signed poster back in the coming weeks! I look forward to working with her on other miscellaneous framing projects too here & there!
The few other staff members I had interaction with were nice too. When I was asked, "Did you find everything ok today?", my answer was I found...
Read moreMichael’s, to me, has always had superior products over Hobby Lobby. Not only do they have high-quality products, (as Hobby Lobby does), but their prices have always seemed to beat every other craft store! The employees are always so kind and friendly, and you can actually find one of them when you have a question, unlike Hobby Lobby. I especially love the Michael’s store in Shadow Lake. The customer service is superb, and you’ll never ask a question that they won’t either know the answer to, or that they won’t be too hurried to find. I’ll continue to give Michael’s my business for all of my...
