I recently had the pleasure of being served by Angie, a fabulous waitress at Down Home Diner in Reading Terminal Market. Angie's exceptional service and friendly demeanor made my dining experience truly enjoyable.

From the moment I sat down, Angie greeted me with a warm smile and made sure I felt welcome. She was attentive to my needs throughout the meal, ensuring that my orders were taken promptly and accurately. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, as she provided helpful recommendations and answered all my questions with ease.

What struck me most about Angie was her genuine care and dedication to ensuring a delightful dining experience. She paid close attention to detail, ensuring that my food was served hot and presented beautifully. Angie was quick to refill my beverages and regularly checked in to ensure my satisfaction. Her friendly and personable nature made me feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer.

Not only did Angie excel in customer service, but she also displayed excellent teamwork and multitasking skills. Despite the bustling atmosphere of Reading Terminal Market, she remained composed and efficient, attending to all tables with equal attentiveness. I was truly impressed with her ability to handle the demands of a busy restaurant while still providing exemplary service.

Overall, Angie's exceptional service at Down Home Diner made my visit a memorable one. Her friendliness, attentiveness, and dedication to customer satisfaction were outstanding. I highly recommend requesting Angie as your waitress when dining at Down Home Diner in Reading Terminal Market. She is a true asset to the establishment, and I look forward to my next visit knowing that I will receive the same...

Just left. Used to be a great experience and it's really gone down hill. Ordered pancakes eggs and pork bacon for kiddo and was given what the waitress wanted us to have. The pancakes were uncooked in the middle and dough. We also go the Pimento Biscuits that were also dough and raw in the middle. Raw dough can get you sick. The Pimento tasted like mayo. He had dug into the turkey bacon so I didnt complain. I didn't realize until we got the check. Sigh... I wanted to order for myself but something told me not to, glad I didn't. He ate the eggs, turkey bacon, and some ketchup. Really disappointed. Tea and lemonade were good though. The old cook was fantastic not sure what's up in the kitchen now though. The people behind me sent food back too..... Smh maybe it was an off day? Probably won't be back soon.

Adding.... I didn't want to say... But reading other reviews I'll add this... The girl with the short black hair service/personality left a lot to be desired. She subbed turkey bacon when she flat out asked did we want pork bacon and I said yes PORK bacon. Nothing against it but the kid wanted what he wanted. When I called her on it when the check came she shrugged and said oh my fault, and kept it moving.... Smh look if you don't care please stop working in food service. DHD used to have a super friendly vibe but geesh... Today was off. Between the food being undercooked, her nonchalant attitude....again won't be back. Hopefully the owners get better representation to bring back the Down home vibe...

This jawn...the Down Home Diner is definitely a Philly thing. Located in the Reading Terminal, this throw back to good food, great service and delicious food is a standout among the food spaces in the city. No pretentions here, just honest food and service. Down Home has that classic diner feel, but no one calls you "hon" or "sweetie", although I'm sure if you requested it, it could be accommodated. Portions are decently sized to ample, filling any appetite you might bring. If breakfast is your thing, theres not a better place to bring a smile to your face as they have an all day breakfast menu in addition to a what's what in comfort foods menu. Everything is prepared freshly, and tastes as good it looks. I watched many a dish go whizzing by my head, and my stomach whispering to me, maybe we should have ordered that, or that, or that. My Crab Cake with Eggs and Biscuit hit the spot on a chilly Friday morning. My partner enjoyed the Uncle Bunks Bargin Breakfast, it could have a fed a few people. Not a morning person, the all day menu has something to satisfy your craving. This is comfort food at its best, and more importantly they source their ingredients from local farms throughout the area for extra dimension of wholesomeness. Whether you live in the city, suburbs, Jersey, or perhaps just visiting our fair city, put DHD on your places to visit, and...

Down Home Diner – Reading Terminal Market 📍 51 N 12th St, Philadelphia, PA 19101 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Came through for a frat convention in July 2025 and wasn’t sure what to expect—but the second I saw the Dickies uniforms, I knew I was in the right place. (Folks say I look like a minion in mine, so I felt right at home 😅). My server, Alex, was awesome—cool 80s vibe with tats and great energy. I usually don’t eat much at breakfast (a lot tends to go to waste), but Alex recommended the caramel French toast with eggs and turkey sausage. I almost passed on it, but wow—that plate was clean when I finished. No crumbs left behind. My frat brothers ordered the crab cake sandwich on wheat (shoutout to Alex for the bread swap suggestion) and raved about the potato salad. I had a bite and yep—it slapped. Best part? Unlike most spots in Reading Terminal, we didn’t have to deal with long lines. Plenty of space, chill vibe, and great food. Definitely a hidden gem. If you’re in the area, don’t sleep on it—Down Home Diner delivers.

Down Home Diner is a small and cozy diner located in Reading Terminal Market. The staff was friendly and service was pretty quick. Because of the size, the diner can get packed quickly. I ordered French toast with pork bacon. Both was delicious. The french toast was soft and sweet and the bacon tasteful and crispy. I wasn’t much of a fan on how the french toast was burnt around the edges (seen in photo), but I was still able to enjoy it. Definitely would come back to try other menu items. Round 2: So I decided to come back and try their pancakes. I just have to start off by saying how much I appreciate how the food came out hot like it came right off the pan. Most places, the pancakes would come out slightly warm or at room temp. The pancakes were delicious and fluffy. You can really taste the flavor and the buttermilk. I could of easily ate another order of pancakes. Bacon was amazing as usual. I updated my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. This will be my go to spot when I visit Philly.
