My biggest complaint with this company is the deception with the booking process. We visited my aunt who lives in Providence, and she wanted to treat us to a river cruise. I am in a wheelchair, so my aunt fully disclosed this prior to purchasing the tickets. She asked if the boat was wheelchair accessible and was told it wasn't, but I could be carried on the boat. With this information, my aunt purchased the tickets. When we arrived at the dock on the day of the excursion, it was a completely different story. The captain was clearly not happy with the liability of ANYONE carrying me onto the boat. Where was this trepidation when they happily took my aunt's money on the front end? The only reason I didn't give him what's up at the time for the about face was that I didn't want to make my aunt feel that I was upset with anyone other than the boat company. My 62-year-old husband simply carried me to the boat while the big, burly captain stood there wringing his hands and told us how nervous he was about the situation. As for the tour itself, he was very knowledgeable, but could be a bit more patient when a passenger happens to ask a question out of the order he would prefer them to (e.g. something he planned to talk about later in the tour). He just didn't seem to like people that much. So, he gets a one star for the ticketing deception and a 3-4 star rating for the tour, for an average...
Read moreMy daughter and I had a spontaneous day exploring the city and came across Providence River Boat company via trip advisor. Since it was Memorial Day weekend I assumed they would be fully booked, much to my surprise when I called, they were in fact fully booked with the exception of 2 open seats on the next tour. The woman on the phone, Kristin, has the patience of a saint as eventhough I live in RI, I was unsure of where the boat launched from. She gave me perfect directions and we found the launch easily. Once boarding the boat, eventhough full, we had plenty of room to sit which I was glad to see that we weren't all packed in. Captain Tom is friendly and very informative. The providence river ride almost feels like you're in Venice as you travel through the city under the low lying bridges as you pass gondola boats on the side. It was fun being a tourist in our city and made me realize how much history we have, how things we pass by have so much history and is a real lesson to stop and slow down. My daughter's favorite part was when Captain Tom showed us the water marks from previous hurricanes and my favorite fact was learning about the importing and exporting that goes on in the harbor. We will definitely be going back...
Read moreI recently joined a boat tour with the Providence River Boat Company, and I was impressed with my experience! The boat tour provided a fascinating insight into the history of Providence. The captain of the boat was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and provided a lot of information in a way that was easy to understand and very engaging. The commentary enhanced the experience, and it was a great way to learn about the city's rich heritage.
The price for the tour was reasonable and well worth the cost. The tour was a great value for the money spent. Additionally, the boat was spacious and comfortable.
One thing to note is that the tour ended a bit sooner than I expected, which was a disappointment, as I would have loved to spend more time on the river. Additionally, it would have been nice to have some snacks or drinks available on-board.
Overall, the Providence River Boat Company is an excellent way to experience the history of the city. It is well-priced, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Providence and wanting to learn more about the city's...
