Hm. Truth is hard when faith was so high. The members & visitors I've encountered inspired positive regard, but I'd had to wrestle with realization over actions & intentions in staff. As I observed on 3 different occasions there, making up for past wrongs & past gains upon the heads of the beleaguered rang hollow. How? The very essence of bias & prejudice & judgement revealed itself & was aggressively launched at a labor trafficking victim. This brave victim had paved the way of safety for many, but quickly became dangerously imperiled at 2020 onward. One afternoon after dropping off some homeless crew in truck at the library, she returned hungry & out of money after stopping at the gas pump. The senior custodian ran at the victim shouting that she "didn't need a weekly lunch bag because she had money". In horror, I watched this come down three different times. Public humiliation intentionally delivered & choosing upon opinion who deserved a meager $1.50 cent lunch bag proved the abusive & prejudicial thought patterns have never changed. White showed might. The added horror of it was I know the landscape worker. While she freed many victims over time, she remained in ever increasing peril. She rescued domestic violence victims with use of the owners massive truck & shielded many faith leaders & stymied repeat strikes on houses of worship during the 2020 riots along with watching over VSP & local police officers. Without drawing harm on anyone, she shifted actions being present on the street constantly. I asked why, because her life was threatened & terribly precarious. "Because I can when many can't & some choose not to. How many people can & will shield another from harm & stay present to do so?" All this makes me incredibly sad. St. Paul's can posture & proffer, "We've changed. We're re-dressing wrongs!" The stain of choice, of prejudice & bias in opinion, fades all. Their choice in judgment & belief to injure & belittle is what prejudice & hate crimes are all about. Coaxing others to follow suit, reveals. Add more horror? The labor trafficking victim is a Jew, Baptized in the Episcopal church as an infant. The Custodian running at her shouting she wasn't to have 1 of the 9 lunch bags remaining an hour after closing, told her in thick accent that she was German. So it abridges human decency & races into the realm of hate crime. That's what I saw. It's writing itself & I'm a reticent scribe. This doesn't thin my kind feelings for the people or for the congenial ministry, volunteers or ministers. Stop conduct with awareness of harm or choose to allow & perpetuate. It really is & was that simple. Pompous might takes right? Re-dressing exactly what? Truth is painful when one's faith & belief had been so high. Sacrifice at clear peril to spare stained glass windows & the people's heart & sense of safety now tolls horribly....
Read moreFirst and foremost it's smack-dab downtown across from Capitol square and they have a parking deck. Let's face it finding parking always puts you in a good mood. They've recently renovated the sanctuary and it's gorgeous. I used to attend the annual Lenten weekday services. They have been put on hold because of the pandemic. But it's a lovely Place To Worship. They have a lunchtime service every day which when my office was just a couple of blocks from there I used to call my daily dose of Grace. Check it out also if you have a historical bent Robert E. Lee worshiped there...
Read moreAttended for a memorial service. Building itself is beautiful and well-kept! Gorgeous organ with a beautiful sound. Beautiful historic spot in downtown Richmond! The community was warm and inviting. Diverse group of people. They take social justice seriously and have a group specifically dedicated to examining and putting into context the racial history of the church. I am not a regular churchgoer. However, I felt welcome and...
