This hospital was a complete nightmare!! I had a scheduled c section in 05/2024. I was switched to this hospital a month before I was due to give birth due to the hospital in my area being scares to deliver me due to having high blood pressure. The doctor they paired me with was amazing during our weekly visits (we only had 4) Me and my family lived 2 and a half hours away so I booked an air bnb for them for 2 nights because that's how long we discussed my stay would be. Firstly everytime I have been set up for iv the nurse always goes at the top of my hand because they know I will be caring for a baby and need my hand mobility. This nurse stuck me on the side of my hand by my thumb. When I said something she goes " ohhh I always stick my patients that way because I know I'll get a good stick and won't have to stick you multiple times. I said ok and let it go. Next the surgery I began with the doctor who I met for the visits and when I looked up 10 minutes later she was coming through the door saying she had an emergency and had to step away. I didnt even know she had left. She said her residents were doing an amazing job and I look up and it is two of the young looking very disgruntled looking young ladies who begrudgingly said hi as they continued to tug and pull at what ever they were doing by then my daughter had been out a good 10 to 15 minutes. Then my husband was excited we have 3 sons this is his first daughter he was also worried about me because this was an incredibly rough and our first high risk pregnancy the nurse tells him very rudely to sit down then as they where wheeling me out to recovery she says give her the baby she did all the work just making him totally uncomfortable. Then in recovery because of my blood pressure i was supposed to be monitired. The nurse came and moved me from labor and delivery to the the creepiest room considered the recovery floor. To my horror it had two beds i made it perfextly clear i wasnt sharing a room. Once on the recover floor all the nurses kept talking about was how alot of people where having babies and they were running out of room. If i and my baby was checked on once at 9pm that night i was in recovery by 12am that morning my saving grace was the night nurse she came in and stayed with me and my baby for an hour so i could sleep she gave me advice on how to get my baby girl to sleep because she was transitioning a little rough (come to find out she wasnt getting enough to eat) which leaves me 2 the situation with the the lactation specialist one was heavly pregmant and clearly needed to be sitting down just as much as i did the other was an older woman who basically told me she had 9 pf us to see and even though she could see i was clearly struggling and my baby was dropping weight drastically that she didnt have time to address my needs or concerns. The other bed that was vacant remote became stuck under the bed (again creepy asf) and the doctor and nurse came running in and the doctor began to literally scream at me saying the code blue button was being activated and after i reminded her she was a doctor and being very unproffessional at the moment i explained to her the remote was stuck up ubder the vacant bed since we were brought to the room she said oh ok and walked out the room no apology not sending someone to fix it just walked out the room matter fact it was the morning shift nurse that fixed it the morning I was being discharged and then they forced me to stay an extra night even though not one doctor or nurse could give me a reason why. My family including my husband had to leave 2 and a half hours away to our home because we only got the air bnb for the 2 nights i was told we would b there so we (me and the baby) were only fighting for our lives amother night and there was apparently a mix up in the xomputer showing we were discharged so no came to chexk on us until i paged the morning nurse the next mornung letting her know me and my baby were keaving that morning she caught up on our necessary paperwork and discharged us...
Read moreDr Chapman and his team took very good care of me. i had been having back and leg pain which made it difficult to walk. Based on a previous MRI Dr Chapman explained the problem and suggested a steroid injection to the lower back area would help.
I shared with Dr Chapman a previous painful experience i had getting a shot with a different orthopedic practice. About a year before, I was having the same pain in my lower back and legs and was told an injection to the lower back would help. I was told that other than the initial insertion of the needle and a slight burning sensational as the medicine was injected there would be minimal to no pain.
I wasn’t prepared for the extremely sharp pain that occurred during the procedure. I don’t know if a nerve or bone was accidentally nicked or what but the pain was excruciating. It only lasted a second or two but it was unbearable.
My body immediately tensed up but I knew if I responded in anyway to the pain it would cause me even greater pain or worse.
I told Dr Chapman that i understood I needed the shot but i was terrified. Dr Chapman prescribed me a mild sedative which i took before the procedure. I was still terrified and begged Dr Chapman to be honest with me about the pain I was going to experience.
During the procedure Dr Chapman took a second to tell me what he was doing and the nurse(s) explained what was happening on a monitor the doctor was using to pinpoint the location of the injections.
I never experienced any of the pain like i had with the previous injection. Afterwards I was so relieved that once i got back to my room I just started crying. The nurse was so kind and after a few minutes i was finally able to settle down. She then let me stay in the room so i didn’t have to go out with swollen eyes.
Dr. Chapman was very attentive to my fears and I felt he cared about them. He asked questions about my experience and was patient while i explained my concerns. Before and during the procedure Dr. Chapman and his team did everything they could to make me feel safe and comfortable.

Read moreExtremely disappointed in the state of this hospital. I have been at the hospital for 10 days whilst my fiancé is getting treated. In these 10 days the cleaning staff has cleaned once if you can even call it cleaning. The cleaning staff will come into the room, go on their phone in the corner, open a door, then leave. We have complained many times about fecal matter in the bathroom that is for the patients use with no one coming to clean it. One of the people we had to share a room with was constantly peeing and pooping himself(no fault to the guy) but my fiancé has an open wound in his lung, it doesn't seem sanitary nor does it make any sense to subject people who aren't having those issues to them. This man also managed to get his urine everywhere on the floor and no one came to clean it up. Those who came to clean him even threw his soiled sheets on my shoes! There is blood and fecal matter everywhere in the rooms, on wheels of machines/chairs, the bars in the bathroom meant to help the patients up, there is even poop on the "Help" button in the patient bathroom. It is absolutely disgusting and disturbing, it is obvious that VCU does not care at all about their patients. To have to share a room with fecal matter in the air with an open wound is insane. It is no wonder they are bankrupt. The only positive thing about this experience were the nurses who treated us with kindness and joked with us. VCU do better, you own half of the city yet can't even clean a hospital better than a Motel6. I would suggest out-sourcing a cleaning company because clearly the people you hire don't care at all. I am quite frankly horrified me or my fiancé are going to catch something STD or blood disease related here. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU...
