03/2025 Visited on a somewhat cloudy Saturday. ~1.5 - 2 years after the park's groundbreaking. I came to see if the Cherry blossoms have finally been able to bloom.

My expectations were quite low, given reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.

For the small park's size, there's a good amount of seating throughout the park. It was pretty clean, though I can't say much about the surrounding area along the adjacent bike path. It wasn't dirty, but it wasn't exactly clean either.

I was able to see some trees with a few flowers blooming, which was pretty exciting, but they're still a few years off. The trees need 5-7 years to reach a full, healthy bloom. So if you're going to visit for hanami, visit sometime in Spring 2028.

Overall, the park as it stands now isn't amazing. The layout is nice for strolling through, but with the trees still in their infancy, there's not much to see. That said, I can see the potential. I hope the groundskeepers can maintain it so we can have our own Cherry Blossom viewing...

The water treatment plant is now reinvented to include a nice walkway around it. You can watch the boats on the river, the fishermen in overcrowded boats, sit and relax, and it's like you're in another world - so quiet and peaceful. It connects to the new Matsui Waterfront Park, which then connects to the bicycle path. the State Park and Old Sacramento about a half-mile downstream. Very well planned. This is one of those Sacramento River Secrets for those who want to experience how beautiful this town really is. Eventually, it will all be connected to the in-progress Waterfront Redevelopment Project. For those of us who live downtown, this part of the riverfront is easily accessed by bike and gives a respite from the chaos and noise of...

It's not what I thought all these years passing by. I thought you could walk along this cement pier and lookout over the water. But no it's locked up. Don't know if it's because of covid or it was always this way. If you want to go for a walk or bike ride their is a path below going south towards downtown or north to who knows where? Not very many parking spots. I guess I can or whoever wants to know more can Google Matsui Park and find out more. Sorry real bummed this was not available to explore and that I don't have much to offer in this review....

This a pretty new park. It could be very beautiful. And I imagine when the cherry blossoms are in bloom it’s just lovely. Unfortunately it’s quickly becoming a homeless camp. Lots of trash ruin the space. Considering this is so close to the museum of science and curiosity where are a lot of children go you would think they would keep it cleaned up and less dangerous seemingly. It seems pretty disrespectful to legacy of Robert Matsui. Some lovely sculptures in the park is laid out really nice. It’s just becoming a not so nice place.

Hoping for family pictures. How sad to see this spot neglected. I’m sure summer or spring is nicer but I wouldn’t come back to find out. This is what we found.
