Okay so this was my favorite experience in our trip to Salem. It just felt good. The price of admission was entirely reasonable for the experience that you got and still we able to spend some money in the gift shop. Like I think that places sometimes lose that thought when they start raising the price of their tickets and then you spent so much on the ticket you can't afford to buy something while you're there. But that's not this totally reasonable in price. The gentleman that was setting up out front with the signs and everything is the one that sold us on the experience and we booked the ticket right there they had lots of availability at that time but from what I understand but later in the day we're completely sold out. All of the figurines are really well done and eerily watch you with their eyes in a really creepy way. I love the original universal monsters those were some of my favorites as well as the giant ghostbuster I would give anything to have that slimer in my house as part of my Ghostbusters collection. The only negative that's I had with isn't really much of a negative at all is that you can't take any pictures in the exhibit, but I totally understand why. For those people who don't know count orlok is the old black and white dracula real name, but I made up an alternative story the count orlok was Vlad's brother and is just trying to get by in a modern world by running a wax museum. He's also gone super politically correct so he says things like " I want to suck your blood, with consent" and "look into my eyes... Respectfully" imagine a dracula that needs you to invite them in, but also asks for you to sign a consent form... That's hilarious. Anyway go to count orloks, if you only do entertainment activity-thing in town. This would...
Read moreWe visited Salem yesterday for their annual Haunted Happenings festivities. We have been to Salem a few times but this was the first time we checked out Count Orlock's Nightmare Gallery and I am so glad we did! First of all, you should probably buy the tix in advance online. I went online the morning of and most of the time slots were already sold out. We had tickets for 7pm so we got in line early, around 6:30, considering it was a warm Saturday a week before Halloween and would probablybeextremely busy. Shortly after getting in line an employee came through checking tickets to help expedite the queue. He said the 7pm time on our tickets would not prevent us getting in earlier which was good to hear. There were maybe 10-12 people in front of us and we only waited about 15 mins. Once inside, after a short intro by an employee you are allowed to roam through the displays freely. The craftsmanship of the wax statues are absolutely amazing! You can't help but feel like they could just come to life right in front of you as you peer into the very life-like eyes! A lot of information to read about each character, creature and actor if you want to linger and read each placard. Hard to stay on one exhibit for me, as I would see something else out of the corner of my eye and get too excited to wait for a closer look. All in all well worth the $16 for admission (I think, cant remember the exact amount), especially for a cinephile like myself. You exit into the gift shop which has some really cool memorabilia. It was a little cramped though, which makes browsing somewhat difficult and uncomfortable. We did snatch up a couple really cool tshirts on our way out tho, just couldn't resist! Highly recommended attraction next time you are planning a trip to...
Read moreI'm a Salem resident and I am on a mission to tour all the local attractions. About this one:
This is a great little museum that I visited in 2020, and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of movies' memorabilia and props collected here.
What it is: It's an Horror Cinema Museum where you will find posters, memorabilia, props and so forth from popular Horror movies. I do remember, before visiting it, that I was slightly concerned that it could be scary - it was probably because of the actors dressed as popular Horror movies' villains that typically hang outside the museum, or something maybe that I read on their website? - but I can guarantee that on a normal day it's a museum, not a scary house, and only occasionally it doubles as a scary house (or so the website says).
PROs This place is remarkably well put together and full of interesting objects and costumes. It is even more interesting if you are already familiar with the movies featured.
CONs When I visited, I thought that it did lack a bit of context. What I mean is that it would benefit from a sign or two with some introduction on Horror Cinema, like maybe a timeline of some sort? Instead of directly talking about the first movie and then the next and then the next. But this is more a "suggestion" than a complain. The only issue that I can see arising here is if you visit it when it's very crowded. This museum is one of those where you really need to pace yourself to enjoy it. To stop at every display, read the signs, observe etc. If you are in the crowd, pushed by people to the next room, then it could not be that great an experience and would last not that long. Try your best to visit it when it's not too crowded. Pictures inside...
