I'm a Salem resident and I am on a mission to tour all the local attractions AND historical sites.

About this one: The Gardner-Pingree House is property of the Peabody Essex Museum and open to the public only for guided tours. I visited it today as part of an architectural, walking tour (called "Brick by Brick") that I booked on the PEM website and includes other properties too.

This tour is very well designed, with a lot of information, a professional guide and it's easy to follow as we were all provided with a radio and earphones connected to the guide's microphone.

The Gardner-Pingree House is one of the large mansions built during the Golden Age of Salem, designed in Federal style by Samuel McIntyre for wealthy merchant John Gardner. Only the first floor is open to the public while taking the the tour, with about four rooms furnished with period pieces. If you're not taking the tour, you can still learn about the house by scanning the QR code on the fence of...

An amazing house. Not too much information of the owners of the house but the architect was rather famous, born in Salem, MA (Samuel McIntire). This house is in amazing shape given it's age but it is built from brick and has a granite foundation. Furnished as it would have been when built, it was completely reworked in the 1980s. Carpets look new. If you like looking at old homes, this one is a great one. Owned by PEM, look for a tour...

This beautiful brick Federal style home was built by Samuel McIntire in 1804 and is currently owned by the Peabody Essex Museum. Plenty of information about the former owners is available through PEM Walks, a free audio tour available online. Haunted House tours will stop here, as 80 year old Joseph White was murdered on the...

An interesting building that is another stop on the self guided walking tour of Salem. There are plaques explaining the history and it is well worth stopping at if in the area.
