John. Melissa. Joey. They’re going to take care of you. Do me a favor. Check out the Bit Bar Salem. It’s where nostalgia meets beer craft in the most delicious way possible. Tucked on Derby Street in the heart of Salem’s historic district, Bit Bar delivers an experience that transcends the typical bar night. Step inside, and you’re immediately transported to gaming’s golden age. It’s a classic arcade filled with pinball machines that take over the space with their warm glow, from vintage favorites that defined the ’80s to rotating newcomers that keep the floor fresh. But this isn’t just another barcade. The food program here punches well above its weight class. Their comfort menu features standouts that earn genuine raves—the Loaded Tetris Tots with house beer cheese, those unexpectedly perfect chicken tenders, pretzels that pair beautifully with local craft brews. The kitchen understands that bar food can be both playful and seriously good. The beverage program shines with craft cocktails and an impressive selection of Massachusetts breweries, served by staff who genuinely care about your experience. The patio even transforms into a seasonal beer garden that captures Salem’s charm without the tourist chaos. Get the Princess Peach. You won’t regret it. What sets Bit Bar apart is its soul—this is a place that hosts karaoke nights, trivia competitions, and killer dance parties. It’s a true community gathering space that welcomes everyone. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday or just need to remember what pure fun feels like, Bit Bar Salem delivers. It’s where Salem locals actually hang out, and that says everything. Visit. Tell them I sent you.

The food is pretty good. I had the "Loaded Tetris Tots" for an appetizer, which is just Tetris-piece shaped tater tots covered in beer cheese and bacon bits. The cheese is really delicious but it is pretty filling. I got the Margherita pizza for my main meal and it was alright. The mozzarella didn’t stay on very well and the sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking but the bread was nice and crunchy. I also had some of my girlfriend’s fries and I enjoyed them. The drink glasses are pretty small and the food is a bit more expensive than I’d like. The restaurant has a good atmosphere. It’s way better than the old Bit Bar location, with much more space inside and it’s very close to Salem’s downtown, being right on Derby Street. With way more arcade machines, TVs and murals on the wall, and a (mostly) teen/young adult crowd, it feels kind of like being in an 80’s movie. If nerdy culture isn’t your thing, maybe try somewhere else. I didn’t have time to play any games but there’s plenty to choose from for those who do. The service wasn’t too great. The food took a while to come out and the appetizer came out at the same time as the entrees so we had to eat them simultaneously. Once we were done we had to wait a little while more for the waitress to come and give us the check, but she said she was new so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. The portable machine she provided to pay with was actually super useful, cuz it calculated the tip for us and we just put our cards in and signed right at the table, which made things go much quicker than the average restaurant. Overall, it’s a pretty good restaurant and I’d go again but there are things that could have been better.

Got a sneak peek tonight at the new Bit Bar location in downtown Salem. Really like the new space and additional games. Was sad to see no qubert - one of my personal favorites. But it will be in rotation so I will be back to find it. Space at the location is great. Nice big bar and lots of space. More video games and now there is skee ball and air hockey. Waitstaff was great, even on this "preview" night. Sometimes things can be bumpy the first couple of nights. There is plenty of the old staff mixed in with some new staff. All super nice and knowledgeable. Food was slightly improved. But it's not great. It's ok to snack on something but much of the food is frozen. Bit bar if you are reading. Been visiting your restaurant since you opened. Love the games and fun atmosphere!! But so much of the food is frozen. And it really is too bad cause if you made even the burgers and a few things by scratch it would make this place incredible. If I could get a fresh (not frozen patty burger) made for dinner; me and the family would be in there weekly dropping money on food, games and drinks. Extra star for having: 1- gluten free chicken fingers! Yum!! I still do wish they made their own - honestly its not that hard- but for frozen chicken fingers they were really good. 2 - dedicated gluten free fryer!!!! Big bonus for this!! It is a total treat to have to not worry about having fries that have been cooked in the oil that gluten has been cooked in. All in all love it here! Will be coming back often.

I was super excited to finally be able to go here after hearing so much about it for years but when I finally did, it just didn’t live up to the hype. To front load with the good, the food was actually top notch. I got a pizza which was amazing, as well as the mozzarella bites and the tenders my wife got. All very good! But other than that…things kinda went downhill.

First and foremost, we were a group of mostly plus sized people so, we figured asking for a booth would be more comfortable than a high top, which were the 2 options offered. Went we got to our booth, it was not only just very small, even for a straight sized person, but there were multiple, non hightop tables available. Not too much of a problem, just weird it wasn’t offered.

Our server took our orders pretty quickly but all but vanished for a while after that. I don’t recall them even bringing our food. They did forget a side my wife ordered but did quickly fix that but they then just kinda disappeared again for a while. No offense, but the dining room just didn’t seem that busy, couple tables and plenty of other staff, it was late afternoon on a Sunday. Flagging them down and getting boxes and the check took some time. When we finally did and paid, we were very awkwardly confronted about the tip left. If the server had been more attentive and personable, we would’ve gladly done more. There was also just like no real additional information on tokens. Just “you can pay me here for tokens with card”. No amounts or anything. Also, asking for a tip on getting tokens? Weird.

Game Selection just to be blunt, sucked. I ended up sticking to pinball, which I wouldn’t normally do. The pinballs they had were great though! It was my first time with Venom and Godzilla, both were super fun machines! But in the realm of like actual video cabinets, it just felt kinda dull and samey. Nothing that really stood out. I used to work at Pinball Wizard in Pelham and this REALLY made me miss their selection.

Overall, this was just an okay experience that topped off what was a fun day in the city. I know a lot of people swear by this place but, I just don’t...

We went in and at first enjoyed what we saw. Bring cash to get quarters(recommended) or plan to use every token you get. Several games did not work correctly such as no balls came down on one of the ski-ball games, one pinball machine had not released the pinball and allowed several to get caught and unsuspecting players would put in a quarter only to lose it. Several decent arcade throwbacks are here and great. Absolutely enjoyed the game time otherwise. Now, to the food part of it. Our waitress kills the stars here, she seemed friendly and took our order promptly, and informed us we could play games and she would let us know when our food came out wherever we were on the floor. We witnessed her slide, not drop, slide an entire pizza onto the floor, no real biggie mistakes happen right? Well we headed back to our table when we felt like our food should be there only to give our drinks had not even been put out yet, a couple sodas is all we ordered. As we were sitting, maybe ten minutes, our food came out and we asked the person that brought it about our drinks and we were answered with "I have no idea" and he walked away. Poutine is cold, I mean no heat what do ever, same with the kids tenders but the pretzels were nuclear. We eat in hope the waitress would come by, we wait longer hoping she might go to some other table close by. My wife goes to hunt her down only to tell someone to send her to us. Finally she gets to us and her response about the drinks is they must have brought them out and then took them back. I don't know how to respond to this other than "why?" She had no idea but she did put them in. So she took them off our order and informed us of our total. I'm not asking for free meals or to comp anything but that's not even a simple apology, nothing, not even a change in her tone. We heavily considered just walking out at one point and we don't do that. Three stars because the atmosphere was really nice, we had a good time playing the games. Just one bad experience with a waitress, and a non helpful, I don't know what...
