I am a frequent movie-goer and have been to almost all of the theaters in San Diego. This theater is always my first choice! I try to see movies here whenever I can. This theater has now spoiled me. I love having assigned seats so that I don't have to get there early, the seats themselves are super comfortable and recline (in ALL of the theaters). You definitely want to buy your tickets online though- or maybe a couple of days in advance in person. Since it is reserved seating, you don't want to get stuck with seats all the way in the front or on the side. Also, this is a pretty popular theater, so you don't want to show up and all of the tickets be sold out. They have definitely upgraded their food menu, plus- they have recently obtained a different kind of liquor license so that you can bring your drink (from one of the two bars in the theater) into any of the theaters! The ONLY bad things you could possibly say about this place: this theater doesn't always have All the newest movies (though they do have some), and you can't use the Fandango movie pass at this theater.
Bottom line: Better than a regular movie theater because- Assigned seats, quality of the reclining seats, standard AMC food menu, same price as normal AMC tickets, alcohol allowed in every theater. Worse than regular movie theaters because- Not every newest movie Better than Cineplois, The Loft, and other "luxury theaters" because- Tickets are standard AMC price (about half the cost of these other theaters), the quality of the seats are comparable, and did I mention how much cheaper these tickets are?! Plus if you have an AMC stubs card, you save a lot more money versus going to one of these other luxury theaters. Worse than Cineplois, The Loft, and other "luxury theaters" because- The food isn't as great as the "luxury" theaters and usually neither are the drinks, but then again- about half the price... you get what you pay for (which I am totally fine settling for the huge monetary savings). They don't always have the newest movies. There are no fancy features like bringing your food to your seat during the movie (which kind of bugs me anyways, so that's not really a con for me). That's pretty much it.
This is why AMC La Jolla is my favorite theater and number one choice for theaters in San Diego (although there is another just like it in Chula Vista, if you're closer...

MY REVIEW IS ACCURATE!
HERE IS THE SCOOP, MY DAUGHTERS OLDER WANTED TO SEE VERONICA MARS? MOM LEFT ME WITH 3 YEAR OLD AFTER CHOOSING THE BEST TIMES SO I DON'T LOSE BUSINESS AS I AM SELF EMPLOYED. WELL ANYWAY THEY GET THERE AND FIND OUT THAT YOU HAVE TO BE 21 YEARS OLD TO WATCH MOVIE. THEY DO HAVE TIMES TO WATCH A MOVIE ON PHONE SYSTEM BUT DON'T MENTION YOU NEED TO BE 21 AND OVER. THUS SCREWED ME OUT OF BUSINESS WHILE HOME WATCHING YOUNG ONE. I DON'T MIND WATCHING MY KID BUT LIKE TO PLAN IT AS AM THE BREAD WINNER FOR FAMILY.
THESE JACK AS.ES ( A GAL MANAGER COULD HAVE AT LEAST GAVE US FREE TICKETS FOR SCREWING ME OUT OF MISSED BUSINESS SALES AND FOR MY WIFE AND KIDS HAVING TO TAXI AROUND THE THEATRE FOR HOURS UNTIL A YOUTH AGED SHOWING IS AVAILABLE. AT MINIMUM $100 LOST BUT EVEN A COMPENSATION FOR COST IS JUST A SUCKER TO GET PEOPLE LIKE ME TO NOT TELL THE TRUTH.
ALCOHOL IS GOOD BUT WHEN IT MESSES THINGS UP FOR YOU AND PEOPLE AROUND YOU IT MIGHT BE GOOD TO STOP USING IT. ( MAYBE THEATRE SHOULD STOP SELLING IT THEN! ) THE FUNNY THING IS THAT THEY HAVE KID SHOWS ON DURING ALCOHOL TIME.....) I THINK 2 POTENTIAL DRINKERS FOR THE 11 AM SHOWING...... FREAKING STUPID BUSINESS MODEL FROM MY POINT OF VIEW.....
MAYBE THEY ARE MAKING MILLIONS? WHO KNOWS NOT US BECAUSE WE DROVE FROM OUT OF TOWN TO SEE THIS MOVIE FOR THE SHOWING TIMES AND WILL NEVER REVISIT THIS PLACE...
Read moreThe theater is really nice and the reclining seats are great. Its fancy. However, when I took my elderly clients (95+) here to see the opera. Which was my first time at this AMC, when we went to the elevator the door was close but it wasnt locked. So I let them through to the elevators because they can't use the stairs. Not knowing that it lead straight into the lobby. That being said when we arrived into the theater lobby at 927am we were greeted with "we aren't open yet but I guess you can wait right here." So I found the closest seat and sat them down and waited patiently for them to be officially open, which is supposed to be at 930am. As we waited, literally all the staff members started complaining loudly saying "how did they get in here we aren't open yet" and "my door was closed so I don't know how they got in" not only was this said once but it was said at least 3 different times in the span of 5 minutes. They were late opening the doors for everyone else by 7 mins. In the time frame that we waited, we didnt complain, say or bother anyone. All we did was sit.
If you dont want anyone using the elevator then simply lock the door to it. Regardless of if we were a few minutes early, that is no excuse to be rude or talk about your customers as if they aren't there or can't hear you.
Lastly, these customers are not only faithful to your business but also a War Vet. I find the caliber of your customer service...
