Decent beach with a lot to do; skate or bike the boardwalk, play volleyball or roundnet, people watch, surf or swim, or just catch a few rays. The water is clean, so I always swim when I go there. It's pricey and a lot of the beachfront are rentals taken by tourists which is why I don't rate it higher. Decent bars and eateries, plenty of souvenir shops and bike/scooter rental places. You CANNOT consume alcohol on the beach there. It is very easy to get to on public transportation. Take the green or blue line to Old Town Station, then either the #8 or #30 buses. I prefer South Mission Beach which is a bit of a stroll down the boardwalk. The Bayside is more laid back and you can rent kayaks if you so desire. Read moreMost accessible & easy going beach arguably in SDiego, especially via public transpo. Beach is 1/2 block from various bust stops (30, 8 & 27). Start out early so you can slide into public or private parking, enjoy IHOP or Ralph's, make sure you caffienete @ Better Buzz Cafe (lavender matcha blended or zucchini muffin)...get fresh oatmeal bowl at Prosotea or snacks at 7Eleven. I adore Breakfast Republic but it is splurgey (kombucha/beer flights do add up!) and the local Juice Bar has great flavors but average is $12 for regular size.....
