San Francisco Fire Department Museum — Attraction in San Francisco

We had a great time! My wife and I have been ff/emts and appreciated this museum (I also work at an East Coast fire museum). The artifacts are nicely laid out with informative descriptions. It is small but full of a variety of appliances, steam engines, displays on the earthquake and fire of 1906, the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and fire, fireboats, fire alarm system, the SFPD, Sheriff's Office and EMS system history. Small museum with limited hours - call before going to make sure they are open. Packs in quite the collection of antique firefighting equipment and memorabilia. Display cases line the outside of the room with badges, helmets, clothes, and extinguishers. Excellent museum with friendly staff. It's not a very big museum but they have packed a lot into it. The thing I found most fascinating was how the technology changed over the years as you go round from the enterance.
