Garibaldi's is in a great location. We were in town for the Hong Kong Film Festival and wanted a place that was close to the theater. It was within stone-throwing distance which made this place extremely desirable.
Service was prompt and courteous. We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Sunday which meant that most reservations were not in just yet. We were seated and drinks started.
We started off with anti pasties of the Tuna Meatballs and Roasted Brussels sprouts. Both were tasty, the tuna meatballs were a little dry, but the sauce on the tomatoes and greens for it were delicious. The Brussels were as one would hope for them to be--al dente and lightly seasoned.
For entrees, one of the party members had the filet mignon, two of the other party members had the braised beef short ribs, one other member had the pork chops, and I had the pasta. I can only comment on the pork chops and pasta as I did not try the others.
The pork was quite tender and juicy, which is a surprise as I have had dry pork chops all too often. The peach glaze was also very delicious. The only thing was that there was too much pork chop--if that is even possible. My husband can usually down a 18 oz steak from Alexander's Steakhouse, but was defeated by their pork chop dish.
For me, I had the pasta which was rather plain, but after the heavy appetizers, I wanted something nice and light.
Overall, great atmosphere and courteous wait staff. I enjoyed my time at...
Read moreReally disappointed in our first visit to Garibaldi's. Went for Valentine's Day. My wife made the reservation two months in advance and we were called to ask to put a credit card down to save the reservation. We were not informed it was a price fixed dinner at $75 a plate until we got there. Still ok if the food had been decent. Most of the dishes were OK at best and the desert just flat fell on its face basically just a chocolate pudding dirt cup. Three courses for that price felt like we majorly got taken for a ride. Cannot imagine what kind of margin these guys made on this dinner. I know it's Valentine's and there is a ton of demand but the price was excessively high and the execution was horrible. The normal menu looked much more impressive and reasonably priced but stay away if there is a fixed price special menu. Sadly I don't think we'll try this place again after leaving hungry and...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place for really good comfort food. Consistent, high quality, creative and very competent. Having come here over many years I've always had a great experience.
This time I had a three bean salad to start. Beautiful quality beans of varied sizes and deliciously dressed. The portion was large and I couldn't stop munching at it. With a glass of white wine it was divine.
Then I had the halibut, perfectly prepared. It was tender, moist and cooked just right. The salsa with it, all around the sides, was delicious and a highlight of the meal including the cubes of bacon. The entire dish was tasty and provided lots of satisfaction.
On a weekday evening at 9pm the place was packed. The Belle Monde comes out in force. The decor is sophisticated and intimate. I will say that it does get noisy. This is a charming neighborhood gem and always...
