Whitaker Gateway Park — Attraction in Sarasota

It is a "small,out of the way",kind of park. First the down side,at the front of the park,a few homeless from time to time make it their temp.quite little refuge from other homeless folks. Homeless like peace and quiet just like the rest of us. Hardly any body goes there ,which can be a plus or minus depending on your mood. The upside is that it has a awesome veiw and would be a nice quiet place to fish,at least all the pelicans seem to think so. They were doing a booming business when I visited and their style of fishing is always amusing to watch. It has swinging benches and a couple of covered table areas. I believe it also was the point were Juda p. Benjamin left for South America on a steamer and later to England to be a barrister in Queen Annes court. He was Jefferson Davis's favorite,the Secretary of war in the Confederate government and it's only Jewish member. You can recognize him in the photo of the Congress because he is the only one with a smile. Cute little park in downtown SRQ

A little difficult to get into and out due to roadwork. Wish there was more parking. Other than those 2 things my only issue is the bathroom...it could use a fan and better light because it can get very hot and dark even during the day. So my only complaints are not that big of issues just minor inconveniences.

Nice little playground. Several picnic benches throughout the park. Decent size gazebo i believe can be rented/reserved.

Great area to stop & take the kids, playground is like an obstacle course 😁 & you can take the kids by the water just don’t get too close to the edge, the swings they have are only for babies thou so don’t expect a swing that is grownups can sit too 😂🤣

Just don’t expect the bathrooms to be open 🙄

I asked the guy sitting in a city of Sarasota car that said he didn’t have keys to the bathroom😒.

just think it’s kinda weird that their locked & that a city worker doesn’t have keys & sitting in...
