The day prior, my wife and I went on the 1pm Narrarated Tour. As we approached to board for our 7pm dinner cruise (a celebration of our 5th Anniversary), we were met with our first of many problems in the evening. Showing our e-ticket, the woman checking confirms our last name, then issues us our tickets from yesterday's 1pm cruise. The customer (us) didn't notice until we stepped into the next line to get those tickets scanned. Obviously, we got kicked back to the ticket issuer. This lady has the gall to say "its not me, its because you booked it wrong." To which i explained that we were consuming the Savannah cruise more than once in our visit. But alas, as she was miserably incompetent at her singular task, had me jog across to the ticket store and get the ACTUAL ticket issued to me and my wife. As we board, we're told multiple times "yikes, you guys are overdressed". It wasn't until we entered the second deck we realized we had been bamboozled by the pictures online. The hostess of the deck is lost trying to find us a seat, leads us to two different tables that already have patrons purses and jackets in the chair, until she randomly throws us in the main aisle out of annoyance. God forbid we wanted to sit or even welcomed onto the cruise. We asked our waitress for waters for the table, and she brought one glass....seeming offended when we asked for a second one....for a two person table. As we get in line to get food, my wife is asking where does the line start. The young lady with 50 shades of red hair, as annoyed as her fellow staffers points toward the right, where there are no plates. We go to reach for plates where they do exist, but get shooed away only to stand there like idiots waiting for something? Well after this awkward 2 minute exchange, 50shades notices there are no more dinner plates, pulling out a stack of 10, slamming them down. I suppose on the Savannah dinner cruise, if you're a first time customer that didn't do your research on the finer secrets of plate storage, you're just SoL. Now we're pissed. Having been treated so poorly from before even stepping foot on the boat, we scarf down our meal before heading topside. Which, thank goodness, because the "live entertainment" we were promised quit playing promptly at 6:58 and weren't heard from again in our time belowdeck. "We'll make our own fun" we said, and hurried off to 4th deck, where the redemption of the night was found. A trio band of local kids were playing music, and if not for these people, we probably would have jumped overboard and swam home. The beautiful voices and tones they evoked granted me and my wife peace as the sun began to set, as did our high tempers. Thank goodness for this group, as they were the only entertainment we got out of the whole evening. --- We did the educational tour - that was great. But we felt absolutely hoodwinked thru false advertising on what the Savannah dinner boat experience was. So if anyone's read this far in the review, be forewarned: - don't dress nice - buy your ticket night of, because it will be your fault for preplanning - dinner is served in a counter clockwise rotation around the table, and don't you dare reach for a dessert plate despite there being no dinner plates out - don't ask the staff to help. They're way too busy either doing their best meanmug, or acting ratchet by the bar - save your money on the three hour cruise, it tasted like arsenic with a sprinkle of grape kool-aid. Finally, in closing, buyer beware. Dont approach this type of experience with anything other than hesitation and uncertainty. Youre better off doing a rooftop bar if you're looking for anything romantic to do on...
Read moreI gave it 5 stars because I would have enjoyed it myself but I wouldn't recommend it with small children. I bought tickets about 30 minutes before we got to Savannah thinking this would be a fun little surprise for the kids. We parked on River Street not far from the ship (paid like $6 or so for parking), they scanned my phone quickly and easily so I didn't need to print the tickets. It was our first time on a riverboat cruise so I didn't know what to expect, it's my fault for not doing more research... The boat was amazing, very beautiful to look at. The kids were so excited by it's size! The tour guide was very informative but the kids (6 & 3) were not very interested. They did get excited when other ships past but I wouldn't recommend it for smaller children. After the initial shock of it's size they were ready to move on, obviously we couldn't since it had already set out lol We tried to distract them with food lol we got them hotdogs/FF, a cheeseburger/FF, chicken salad sandwich/FF and 3 smoothies for $82...the chicken salad was delicious but the price hurt my feelings a little...again I should have done my research lol they also take your picture when you first get there. Then come around with a little picture package for $28 I think it was (may have been $38 can't remember which I paid exactly. I stopped counting after the food 😂) anyway in all seriousness, I'd recommend it for history buffs or older people wanting a relaxing time to themselves. I wouldn't recommend it for children, the cost wasn't equivalent to their enjoyment. We spent about $200 overall for the four of us on this adventure. There's a lot of other places that are more kid friendly in the Savannah area that would cost the same if not less. I'm honestly not complaining about the cruise, it was nice, just don't forget to take into account your kids age like I did 😂 The firing of the cannon was neat and the little orange emergency vessel was cool, I wish I could remember what he called it. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the ship was clean and it wasn't too packed at 1pm which was a bonus with covid. Mask we're not required but a wear then if you've got them vibe. Some employees were wearing them and some weren't. The weather was perfect and exploring the ship was pretty neat. We'll go again when the kids are a little older and can appreciate the history behind the...
Read moreAfter living in Georgia our entire lives and visiting Savannah countless times, we decided to spring for a sunset riverboat cruise, mostly to see a different view of River Street. We didnt do the dinner so we were on the 3rd and 4th decks. Upon entering the boat, a man dressed like a captain or crew member walked in front of me, held the door open, rolled his eyes, and said up the stairs, which I could see through the door to the left. He stopped me and said not that way, but didnt offer to point in any direction, while still holding the door open in front of me (apparently for the people behind me, for some reason). He clearly was miserable at his job - tall, skinny young man with short brown hair.
The cover band on the top deck was ok but nothing special - they also seemed to be over it. The breeze was nice, but the boat takes you down the river into the most industrial area so you see the sunset but through giant cranes and factories, which sounded so deafening, they drowned out the music.
The restrooms were decently clean but not great. We didnt eat or drink while onboard so I cant comment on those but there were drinks available on the top deck.
The music from the gospel singer on the first floor was incredibly loud and the man's voice was horrible! While waiting to get off the boat (and it taking us farther down river when the cruise was over half an hour prior, causing us to miss our next tour) we gathered downstairs with everyone else and a noise that was deafening (like screeching breaks in a wind tunnel) under us, the gospel singer continued to sing without taking a breath so we were pummeled by noise on top of noise while being held captive on this cruise that was seemingly neverending. As a non-Christian person, I felt forced to listen to gospel music which was a complete turnoff. It left me wondering if other religions are ever represented on these cruises.
Needless to say, we've now done the cruise and know not to waste our money doing it again. The romantic idea of a sunset riverboat cruise is missed...
