My husband and I checked in for a 1 night stay to attend Stevie Nicks concert. Upon arrival discovered very small parking on property and a valet service. Speaking to valet they said since we were only there 1 night that we could self park and there happened to be a space available in front of hotel. We checked in and entered our beautiful room with breathtaking views. We then went to eat at restaurant located in hotel and enjoyed a great dinner and service. Time to depart for the concert we decided since we had this great parking space and didn’t want to risk losing it and that hassle we would forget the pre parking we purchased at venue and just Uber to and from. This was discussed with valet attendant and he agreed. We Uber to event ($45) concert is amazing ( my dream concert we waited for 5 months with such excitement ) feeling like Cinderella at the ball everything is perfect until…. We exit arena trying to get an Uber to discover his phone is dead and my phone is at 18% we tried around an hour and finally we were on the way back to hotel. Upon arrival I wanted to retrieve charger from the car. Imagine the confusion when I went to the space and someone else’s car is there. Confused and annoyed since that was the very reason we Uber. We ask desk staff where are car was and looking at us annoyed she said I don’t know where your car is. The male clerk overheard and came out to assist us and went to retrieve the key explaining to us that it was probably in parking garage. Handed us keys and directions of that location and were off walking the streets in an unfamiliar city at midnight in freezing wind. On the key tag it noted 3e1. Arriving on 3rd floor to discover no car…. Panic ensues we began walking up and down floors frantically and then deciding to head back to alert them. On the way back feeling overwhelming anxiety I didn’t see the curb and ankle twisted, down I went landing first on knees then hands. My husband helped me up and I knew I felt pain but adrenaline helped me to push through that for the moment. We told the clerk it’s not there to which he looked at us and said yes it is and then asked if we pushed the “clicker” feeling insulted at this point as if I wouldn’t notice my car or lack of. He then said he would go check. We then asked female clerk for a first aid kit because I had fallen. She gave it to me and we never seen her again. 10 minutes later the male clerk arrives looking very concerned and said he couldn’t find it and he was gonna make some calls and then call police. At this point full hysteria has ensued. My husband took me to room to assess injuries while they worked on finding car. My knees were skinned with blood pouring and ankle blue and double in size. 20 minutes later our home rang and they found the car. We went to see car that was located on 5th floor after inspection we notice the gas hand was lower than before but considering all the stress we endured we couldn’t conclude 100% day with certainty. Exhausted and defeated we retreated to room at 2 am. This was a 2.5 hour nightmare. Thought we would awake to manager reaching out to offer apologies and rectify their gigantic mistake. But instead began several calls to front desk trying to speak to her then going to front desk and finally her calling us back. She apologized and said she was aware of what happened and offered resolutions which follows.. 1. Extended 2 hour checkout time to restore time lost for their negligence. 2. 2 free breakfast coupons for restaurant in hotel. 3. Refund of resort charges ( which when we book were around $100) feeling underwhelmed at resolutions considering the extreme error on their part. We just wanted to just move on and get home. Manager apparently didn’t inform staff because ensued housekeeping knocking and trying to enter every 15 minutes. Desperate to checkout we chose to skip free breakfast. Returned home and checked account this morning to discover a $26 refund. I’m absolutely appalled & insulted by refund. Trying for over 6 hours to speak to manager to no avail. The...
Read moreWe spent 3 nights (was supposed to be 4) at the River Street Inn, and we won't stay again. Let's break it down:
Location is a plus and minus. Convenient for the Historical District, but we had a room on the river side - HUGE mistake. Noisy from the walking traffic and restaurant in the evenings. We may have done better had we stayed on the street side.
Ambience is 50/50. Yes, this is a historical building, and there will be quirks associated with it, but to split the elevators where guests have to use one, walk down a hallway to get to the other for the connecting addition was a complaint we heard from several guests. It is a noisy hotel. Nothing relaxing whatsoever about it depending on where your room is.
Parking is a hassle. We parked our car out front, and didn't move it our entire stay - why? Because if you use valet, they park your car across the street and down a block and you have to wait a very long time for them to get it. Very inconvenient especially if you need to get somewhere needing a car. I can't comment on the valet himself because we didn't utilize his services, but did get charged $45/night for valet parking despite not using it. This should be an OPTION and not forced on their guests. In today's economy, that is just highway robbery and taking advantage.
We specifically booked a balcony room, but upon arrival, didn't get one. We were told later that balcony rooms are first come first served on the river side. Would have been nice to have known that ahead of time.
Room cleanliness - reading other reviews, this can be a hit or miss. For us, it was a miss. I had inadvertently dropped an earring by the bed, and when I looked under the bed to retrieve it, it was FILTHY. Looked like a dust bunny convention, not to mention dirt in general. Clearly, no one cleans under the beds, or cares for that matter. Same with under the bathroom vanity - dirty.
Room size is nice and spacious, but that's about it. The decor is unremarkable. Bed was comfortable. It would have been nice to have a coffee table instead of a cavernous space in front of the sofa sectional. Whoever the decorator was for this renovation is clearly unfit for a job of that scale.
The staff was friendly and kind, and you can tell they have to go along with whatever they are trained to do, but if there are any shortcomings, I blame the management. Clearly they have no clue how to properly manage a hotel as the attention to detail is missing. It's all in the details. The owner really needs to take a step back and look at how the property itself could be improved (tired, faded exterior paint for example), and Head of Housekeeping needs to be more vigilant in how the staff is cleaning (or not cleaning) the rooms. I chalk this up to laziness and again, management for not being more attentive to what the staff is doing.
Bottom line is - you are paying for staying at a Historical Hotel, and you would be better served to find other lodgings for the price you pay. We left a day early and forfeited the last night stay because we were not at all...
Read moreI absolutely loved the location. It's near everything! You don't need a car, unless you want to drive further out, like Tybee or Hilton Head. Check-in with Nicole was amazing! She accommodated me and helped me with two separate reservations I had booked for my 6 nights so I could be in the same room the entire time. And her personality is just fabulous! So gracious and sweet! Every hotel should have someone like her working the front desk.
I had reached out by email and was put in touch with Jennifer who was great about communicating and honored my request for a quiet room. I had read some reviews that said the property was loud, but she put me in a room that truly was quiet. Great sleep every night. It was also a room on the third floor, facing the street. Not much of a view, but it was still kinda cool to look out the windows to the brick and cobble stone below and consider how much history was there. So I'd say if you want to save a few bucks, you don't need a River view. But the River view is amazing! You can see it in the common areas of the hotel on each floor. And the hotel lets out right onto River Street, so easy to get to.
The decor in the rooms make this hotel really fun and add to the whole historical Savannah experience.
The mangers reception was a nice, but the food was cold despite being on a warmer! I would have preferred to just pay for it rather than be charged $25 a day destination fee, since we only went once. But, I actually filled up on appetizers the night we went and skipped dinner!
What I didn't love was I had to take the trash out on my own because they don't offer housekeeping every day. In our six night stay, we were told we could only have it twice! We had to also go to the from desk two times to ask for towels. But the trash thing really rubbed me the wrong way and I don't know if I'd stay here again because of that. Its not cheap to be having to take out your own trash.
Also, the WiFi didn't work in my room. When I called down to the front desk, the a very condescending agent told me to log on with the name of their WiFi and when I told her I of course already tried that, she left me with no help other than to reach out to the front desk manager Monday. I was leaving on a Sunday, so that's not much help. And although I did email the front desk manager, she never responded.
So overall it is a good hotel in terms of decor, location and comfort. I just don't want to have to be worrying about things like running out of toilet paper, taking my own trash out and having to remember to schedule housekeeping a day in advance. And having to stop by the front desk to pick up towels and having no WiFi while forced to pay a destination fee left a bad taste in my mouth. Due to all of this, I wouldn't stay here again. There's just too many other options in the area and I want daily housekeeping when I pay $300+ a night...
