The Holiday Inn Express Savannah-Historic District hotel is conveniently located at the heart of the Historic District. The room was clean and fresh, and the beds were comfortable. The service was courteous, respectful and attentive from the front desk staff. The concierge was super nice and very helpful in lending suggestions for restaurants and which tours to book, and especially, the cheerful ladies handled breakfast amazingly and deserve special mention. Breakfast was plentiful, with all the typical hot and fresh options and a suitable selection to start the day with the delicious cheese omelet, biscuit and gravy, cinnamon roll, and of course, coffee. Close to restaurants, museums, tours, and local parks with their beautiful old oak trees, the location was very walkable: 5 minutes from the Savannah Riverwalk at City Hall, where you can hop on a ferry and enjoy the city from the river. It’s the better way to get across the river to arrive at The Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island, adding a unique charm, though getting there can be a bit tricky. Fortunately, the free ferries that run from 6 AM to 10 PM, with a frequency of around 30 minutes, make the trip convenient and scenic. The Savannah Bells Ferry System operates on a triangle route, offering scenic views and transportation to the Savannah Convention Center, the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, and the South end of River Street. The Savannah Bells Ferry System also links with the DOT Express Shuttle as part of Savannah's free, multi-modal Downtown Transportation (DOT) system. The hotel is near Bryan & Bull St, where you can take the DOT. The dot is comprised of two loops, Forsyth and Downtown, and the shuttle arrives every ten minutes at 20 stops throughout the Historic District, connects to other attractions, shops, restaurants and hotels there and is available seven days a week, 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday) and 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. (weekend). River Street stands as a popular destination for both local residents and visitors alike, offering a diverse range of activities, shopping experiences, dining establishments, and nightlife venues. Visitors can embark on a scenic river cruise, browse through souvenir shops, or take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. The area is characterized by its imposing, historic staircases and cobblestone streets. Holiday Inn Express Savannah-Historic District offers a compelling value proposition for a memorable experience in Savannah, all within a reasonable budget.

We’ve stayed at this hotel previously and it’s been nice with a few minor things. Two years ago when we stayed one of the elevators were down. We decided to stay again because overall it was nice, it had a nice view and overall clean. We stayed a few days ago and it seems to have gone way down hill. Again over it was nice, good location, close to everything, they have a hot breakfast, the concierge at the front desk were all super nice. It we never got a notification our room was ready, and the view from our room overlooking the river was nice. Downsides are the same elevator was broken(not sure if they never fixed it or it was just broken again), the working elevator had duct taped around it, when we got to our room-there was a brown stain of some sort on our sheets(we called and the staff quickly changed them), the blinds didn’t block all the light out, and it’s minor but in these days most hotels have a connection to streaming service-this only had satellite tv-so we watched live tv while we were in the room, we had to hunt for the guide because the guide didn’t work. It was also very loud, every time someone got off the elevator we could hear the entire conversation. Overall decent, but it will not be my first choice next time.

Had a nice room at this Hotel and now left a 5 Star rating :). Of course there are nicer Hotels in the area / city but here are my reasons for the rating: Staff was very friendly upon checking in and explained all “need to know” items for the stay. The room was decorated a bit different compared with most other Holiday Inn. Yes, the view out the window was not the greatest but the room was OK and clean. Parking could be a bit better organised, as you have to pay more than 30 USD if you park on the public parking outside or make use of the parking garage. But, and now this is of course the biggest PLUS, everything can easily be reached by foot. Within a short walk you are down at the water and stroll along the nice restaurants and shops and this makes it very convenient. The Breakfast was also OK and the staff in morning was friendly and funny. Pool was closed due to maintenance during my visit and this made me drop it down to 4 Stars for the Service Category :). Would stay at this Holiday Inn again anytime.

The room was very small, and the carpet was very dirty, Half-way through our trip we noticed a putrid, nasty sour smell coming from the room next to us. It was sickening and nauseating. Two stars for the amazing view of the river and the ladies that provided the hot breakfast and coffee.

We called the front desk to report the odor.

A gentleman arrived at our room and started squirting heavy-duty air freshener everywhere without even asking us, all over our beds, my clothes and suitcase, the carpet. That only made the smell worse and now my clothes and suitcase smelled of heavy-duty air freshener, which I am allergic to.

The smell was so bad that we resorted to spraying our perfume, hairspray and cologne, turning the air conditioning on and leave our balcony door open to help. The front desk told us the hotel was full, and they would try to move us to a different room, and they would call us back, they never did.

Only after the guests checked out of that room and the staff opened that room's doors to air it out, did the smell start to dissipate in our room.

I booked two rooms with balcony views last August for our family vacation via Priceline. We stayed March 7 - 14, 2025. I called two months before and spoke with Aby and Francios to ask about getting two rooms next to each other. They said they would place a note into the account. Upon arrival we were given two rooms on different floors.

Priceline receipt showed hotel would charge an additional $72, Upon arrival the front desk lady told us it would be $200 for each room. I showed her the Priceline itinerary that said $72 and she said that was incorrect and we had to pay $400.

The afternoon before we were leaving, I called the front desk to request a late checkout of 12 (check out is normally 11), the lady interrupted me and said there was no late check out due to hotel being full, and I reminded her of our situation with the smell and that if she could please relay our request to the manager. She hung up on me.

We always dismantle the bed sheets as part of our room cleaning, and we noticed the pillow zip covers were dirty, gross. These rooms were very expensive and not worth the price.

EVERY place we visited during our vacation the people were so nice, EXCEPT the front desk ladies at this hotel. They were not welcoming, and on their phones and talking as guests are at the desk.

NOTE: The balcony room had an amazing view, however, the street noise is very loud throughout most of the day and night.

We do not recommend this hotel.

Our stay was a mixed bag as I thought most of the staff were all very friendly and everything was quite clean, but it appears the owners of the hotel aren't investing enough into it to keep it running properly. I can't recommend staying there at the current price as there are too many hassles - you are better off staying elsewhere.

Positives:

Very friendly staff - especially the concierges and the folks that work in the kitch/breakfast.

Location is close to River walk - lots of shops!

Rooftop pool is nice with amazing view!

Rooms were very clean - whole hotel seemed very clean as well.

The free breakfast was pretty decent - however there wasn't much variety in the hot food options that they prepared - it was mostly the same stuff each day except for 1 change. I'd give the breakfast food a 6 out of 10.

Negatives:

Only one elevator is functional. (This has been an ongoing issue based on other reviewers). This means LONG wait times considering there are 8 floors. We requested a room on the 2nd floor after learning about the elevator issue and while this helped alleviate the waits for us it was still troublesome when it came to getting to the pool and loading and unloading our stuff.

Not enough luggage carts to unload/load your vehicle. We waited almost an hour for one. Couple this with the long wait times for the elevator and it's not good. It took us over an hour and a half to leave the hotel even having all our belongings already packed up.

Be aware that there is no dedicated free parking for this hotel. Yes they have valet service at $30+ dollars a day but don't expect an easy parking experience. There is an adjacent public garage and there were usually open spots but it's not a guarantee and on at least one day I had to park several blocks over and walk back to my room. Also, while the price for the garage wasn't awful there are no in and out privileges and this can be very expensive if you come and go frequently - just leaving your car there though is not that bad and I think the price capped around $15 a day. But if you come and go a few times you can spend $20-$30 on parking in one day. There should be a better arrangment between the hotel and the city regarding the use of the garage as they do have an arrangement made for valet services it appears.

The ice machines on our surrounding floors were broke - I had to go up two floors to get ice each time I needed it.

My room lacked a bathtub plug and a hairdryer. Minor inconveniences but still this is annoying.

The walls were paper thin and we could hear everything the people next...
