For you to understand what the experience of this place does you need to know a little about me. I am a overweight widow of 9 months after being married for 28 years. I just had my 50th birthday and 2 girlfriends (ages late 30) talked me into taking the weekend Bachata book camp classes that are held on a Saturday and Sunday 12 to 4:30. OMG! Now here I am Monday morning writing this review and I STILL want to get up and dance, practice the moves, start working on the body isolation movements and generally get up and move!!! This class makes you WANT to dance. If you love music and like to move it, but have never done any real partner dancing by the end of the class you can and WILL want to!! The teachers for the dance are Vassilli (the leader) and sorry I will probably say and spell her name wrong, Mareta(?) for the followers. I am a strong, self assured person in my work and personal life and have never done much partner dancing but always seem to try to lead when I do. This class taught me to be a follower, to "feel" and listen to the music and and follow my partners movements. He explains to us what we are going to do as each new skill is introduced. Then we usually break off in to groups of his taking the lead and the lady the followers to practice and learn the steps. then back together in a large circle where we pair off and practice, rotate and practice again and again. So you work with different partners. no one feels left out. (There were about 40 of us with a few more followers than leads but it didn't really matter) I don't know how the once a week hour long classes are but the boot camps are really amazing on keeping you working and learning. I really like that. The dance, Bachata, is a very partner on partner dance. Some one told me it was sexy Salsa and I don't see that but you do have to learn to accept someone in your personal space and as a follower I spent a lot of time with my eyes closed to feel where and what my lead was trying to convey to me. So we ladies are now planning on going to one of there quick $10-1 hour bachata lessons on a Friday night and immediately after, stay for the $5 all night (til 3 am) Bachata, Salsa dancing they have. I really hope you will break out of your shell to DO this and take the classes. Vassilli is an amazing instructor; funny and very knowledgeable about the history of the dance AND also about helping you to break through your own personal barriers along with your partners' barriers so by the end you are comfortable being that close to someone and not feel uncomfortable. Actually you feel DAMN comfortable!!! and...

Read moreA great dance studio that focuses on community, respect, and inclusivity.
In response to a one-star review citing their dismay at not having one-on-one time with their significant other in classes. The social dancing scene is "social". Dancing with others is a big part of the experience (though not mandatory). The culture isn't romantically driven - people of all identities and orientations are here to dance, learn, and enjoy themselves.
Some couples prefer to only dance with each other, and I've seen that happen in classes. Speak with the instructor if it's something you truly want. But keep in mind, dancing with others is a great way to learn, meet friends, and explore the vast dynamics of partner dancing. It's a blast to dance with partners of different skill levels and styles.
I started with their beginner, month-long salsa series and quickly joined their year-long program because of instructor quality and communal positivity. Highly...
