A great shop with a big collection of friction and non-fiction. Avoid the male shop assistant with long hair! And if you talk to him advise him to look for another job (he seems utterly unhappy in his position).
I always loved this shop, but I did have a nasty experience last week. In two days I bought non-fiction (professional read) for over 150USD value. Both days I asked for a bill / receipt (for my tax purposes). The first day a very nice lady helped me, she was very friendly and accommodated me in providing an itemized receipt. The next day a guy with long greasy hair helped me. I asked for a recept and he put it in my bag. At home I discovered it was a credit card payment confirmation check (unusable ofr IRS). The next day I came to ask for the itemized receipt (which can be used for IRS), the guy was outright rude and annoyed and unhappy in his job. " You should have asked it the same day" he said. "Which i did !"... The guy said they had no technology to go back to transaction of the previous day... (I had a transaction number) He didnt even try.... .... He was outright nasty and dismissive. Well this was the last time I came to this shop to spend money. And Hmmm ... Well I ll write to IRS that this shop lacks technology to go back to transaction a day before. Lets see if they would be interested to...
Read moreTwice Sold Tales is an independent used book store. They buy and sell books, and overall their prices are very fair.
A couple tips:
(1) The owner is a little... Well, she's somewhere between eccentric and bipolar. She's very nice in general but if you catch her on a bad day, she's a. It off putting. If you see the myopic woman with streaks of grey, just be friendly and know,if she's not immediately friendly, she may be having an off day. She loves books and will talk your ear off on a good day though. Really, she's very nice. Old school Seattle. (1.5) The rest of the staff is really friendly and helpful at all times. (2) Between two and five cats live here at any time. They're all wonderful and cute and socialized and love to be pet (or do not mind at all if you pet them). Most people who frequent the shop either partly come for the kitty fix or just don't care either way (kind of like cats!). So, the point is, if you don't like cats, or you think cats are gross, don't come here. (3) There is a lot of stock here. Check back often. Many books come and go frequently. Check out the different sections, browse, ask the staff questions. (See 1 and 1.5 above). (4) Be sure to check out happy hour here --- 6pm-9pm every day. 25% off used paperbacks will save you a bunch!

Read moreMy husband and I had taken a quick overnight trip to Seattle from Idaho. My one thing I wanted to do while there was go to a used bookstore. I had googled used bookstores before going and saw they had four cats in their store! Winner! I told my husband that's where I wanted to go! We did our normal touristy stuff at Pikes Place and then drove over to the store. While inside we found the kitties! And not only was there four cats, there was six! They were all so adorable. I found a couple horror books that sounded interesting and headed up to pay. While ringing up (and petting two kitties) I had a lovely conversation with the gal running the place. She told me to check out a book called The Paperback from Hell because she thought I might be interested. I looked it up on the way home and purchased it right away. I got it in the mail today and it's awesome! There's alot of pics of horror books from the 70s and 80s! Super cool! So thank you for the recommendation! Also I met a lovely person with green hair (I was the one with multicolored hair) and they were really sweet to talk to! I'm definitely visiting again when I come back to Seattle. Great selections and great pricing! I even scored an out of print book! Thank...
