I give 3 1/2 stars (only lets me choose whole stars). I mostly visit this theater on weekdays or Sundays to see films that start in the AM or very early afternoon. The theaters are clean. The picture and audio quality is great nearly 100% of the time. Most of the usher staff are courteous and competent. The senior citizen employees are all just wonderful.
What keeps this theater complex from getting 5 stars: Coke Freestyle machines don't seem well maintained. My family and I have often ended up with drinks that were flat and/or had no flavor - even when I'm there for the first showing of the day. It's to the point where I'm now skipping the Freestyle machines. The standard drink dispensers at the regular concession counters that employees fill for you seem to be maintained ok, but of course the flavor choices are much more limited.
Over the past year or so, more times than not I've been in the food court at 11:30 AM and not been able to order anything that's considered a meal because the food counters haven't been ready. Sometimes the food court employees don't seem well trained. This has happened mainly on the west side of the food court at what I think they still call the Mayan Express. I've ended up with some rather odd creations under the guise of supposedly being nachos. When I would point out that what they'd made wasn't what I'd ordered, the responses have ranged between "oh well, too bad" dismissals to trying to gaslight me. I've seen what I consider to be an apathetic attitude with many of the food court employees. They don't seem to care about maintaining equipment or creating appetizing food that actually meets the menu descriptions. It's been really frustrating. I'm to the point where I make sure I eat at home and usually don't buy more than a mega mug refill drink now.
Some of the regular seats are getting lumpy and saggy and need to be re-stuffed. The past 4 films I've been to that I bought regular seats for (as opposed to luxury recliners), my seats have been uncomfortable.
Women's bathrooms sometimes don't have soap or paper towels - right after the theaters open! I see 2-4 movies per month, on average. I always visit a restroom right before the film I'm there to see starts and I often visit a restroom after the film as well, usually the one that is closest to the exit that's nearest to where I'm parked. Over the past 6 months someone has really been dropping the ball with the women's bathrooms. The soap and paper towel dispensers have usually been empty. Remember, I'm there for the first or second showing of the day on a weekday or Sunday. Rarely a busy time.
I've mentioned these things in follow up surveys that have been emailed to me after a lot of my theater visits. Managers send acknowledgments, but unfortunately nothing seems to actually change. I live about 1 mile away from this theater complex and have been going here regularly since it opened more than 10 years ago. These issues I've mentioned are relatively new, as in I started noticing them within the past...
Read moreDon't plan a birthday party at the District location.
I will begin by saying we've gone to this theater since it opened for our movie going. A tad over priced, but overall a good experience. This review is not in reference to those experiences because they, admittedly, have been good.
This review is for anyone planning a birthday party. Earlier this week we called because our son wanted a party where we watched the latest movie out. When I called they pitched the Hollywood Party. When speaking with the individual we agreed on a time and a date. We agreed we'd arrive 1:10 prior to the showing to ensure there was enough time to complete the party portion prior to the show. When we arrived the section for the party was set aside as discussed, small movie specific signs guiding us to our spot were up. Good so far. However, once we get fifteen kids there we waited for 30 minutes and two requests for help to have a "Event Host or Hostess" to begin to help us. I'm not one to wait so we began the event ourselves because the clock was counting down to show time. Once our attendant did show up they were helpful, but certainly not what I'd expect of a "host." They got us our kiddie combos, candy, and cups for drinks. Ten minutes before show time as we saw that she wasn't taking control we moved the kiddos to the auditorium. As the movie began I sought our a manager. I explained to him, Ashton, my frustration and my belief that if you want to call it an event vs simply a venue, you need to make it that, an event. He stated he was sorry for the perception and he stated that he'd be at the ready after the movie to discuss. The movie began, with no "Birthday Greeting and Song in the Auditorium" to make my son feel special or to complete the event experience. Guess who wasn't there after the show? Ashton.
In the end, the kids didn't notice much other than slightly stressed out parents. In my opinion the reason you pay the premium fee is for A) the special experience and B) the frustration free process. Otherwise, I'd just buy movie tickets and "kiddie combos" and call it good (about $5~$6 less per kid). In this case I believe it was less than what I expected. In the end, I would suggest to anyone considering the overpriced birthday packages, to set clear expectations of the staff and lower you expectations to that of a venue instead of a hosted event. Because the definition of a host, a person who receives or entertains other people as guests, does not apply here. Or better yet, take your kids to Chucky, Airborne, or anywhere that is accustomed to making a child's birthday an experience vs just...
Read moreThree stars are generous this time for many reasons would rank a one star. What was great-- having reserved ed my seat and ordered food from concessions at home before leaving for the show. This was a first fir me I walked right to the pick up counter and popcorn was hot and ready while the main concession counter had a very long line. Only thing that could be improved is when I arrived I was enticed by one other things not ordered ahead and in order to add to my order I would have had to go stand in the long line. The girl who was working at the counter had a computer but couldn't "ring up" anything additional,. She just stood there.
On a more serious note, I cannot believe this even happened or was a thing.... I can only imagine the liability if someone -- like me-- had been seriously hurt--- in the IMAX theater as the credits ended, in a flash, all at once the theater went completely dark!! No lighting on the steps-- keep in mind the IMAX is a big theater with steep steps-- I was on row Pâź NO exit signs were lighted-- it was PITCH black. So dangerous ! The theater still had a good number of people still seated ad well as standing clear to the top top row-- at first everyone just kinda froze there like WTH , I gathered my purse, popcorn, drink and blanket. ( obviously an arm load. I very carefully and slowly started to make my way out of my row to the stairs. As I went down the steps holding on to the railing for dear life. Would be a good assumption that I was the oldest person in the theater and the only physically "disabled" person. Thankfully a teenager who was already down the stairs had a flash light he directed up the stairs to light my way--props to his mama! He also asked if I needed help. Nice experience in the theater up until the lights went. Outside of the IMAX-- there wasn't a worker or Megaplex representative anywhere to be seen. It was 15 minutes after midnight--if someone had fallen down the stairs would more than likely have been seriously hurt. I am still just shaking my head at what a huge liability this could have been for the Larry H Miller...
