This is my second time eating at village baker. The first time was great so we went back. I have certain things I can not eat. So I ordered exactly what I ordered the first time just a ham and cheddar. I didn’t except to have any condiments on it as the sign says to choose if you want it. I didn’t have to specify the first time. I was told it came plain. So I ordered it just like I thought I needed to. When I got the sandwich it had sauce and condiments. My husband ate his but I can not. So I told the lady who brought me my food. What had happened. She couldn’t understand me so she got another guy. I told him everything I mentioned above. He proceeded to tell me he couldn’t fix the sandwich and that they don’t make it like what I was asking for. Which was just basically plain. As I started to get stern about not being able to eat it he did say he’d fix it this time, but he wasn’t going to. With our sandwich we also ordered 2 cups of soup. When I got the sandwich the second time. I again mentioned to the waitress we didn’t get our soup. We patiently waited and ate our sandwiches. Then we waited a few more minutes when we were done. People around us were getting there soups. So my husband went to the counter to ask for our soups. The guy slowly was getting it and then tried to send it to drive through. The guy at the counter went to him and then took it and gave it to my husband. The guy making the soup had a smerk at my husband like it was funny. Which was also the same one who tried to tell me he couldn’t redo my sandwich. I paid way more than what I would if I made our meal at home. It’s a luxury to not cook so we went out, but with this service I won’t go back. I’ll...
Read moreIn general, Village Baker is one of my favorite food establishments on this planet. They offer the best sandwich I've had, and have been frequenting them since 2005. We recently tried this location for the first time and it was our least favorite of all the VB locations we've been to. My wife said it was her least favorite VB sandwich (the same one she always gets), and my sandwich wasn't as good as it could have been. I know this is nit-picky and I'm not docking a star for this, but my the bread on my sandwich was rotated 180, so the top crust on top was facing the opposite way on the bottom. It's a little detail but I can't understand how someone working at a sandwich shop can't manage such a basic detail. It made it harder to eat my sandwich without stuff falling out. First time I've had that experience at any restaurant. Some of the girls working at this location seemed snotty. Not a huge surprise for the area and the types of teenagers you'd likely get working there, but it was still a negative aspect of our visit. Specifically, when we ordered a kid's meal we asked if we should grab a juice box out of the fridge, and we were told "no, we'll just bring it out to you." Well, when she brought the food out there was no juice box. When I went to ask if I need to just grab it, she looked at me like I was stupid and responded "uh, yeah, just grab it." Small things, sure, but having frequented VB for over 17 years there were notably unpleasant experiences with this visit compared to the high standard I've grown to expect from VB. We'll probably pass on this location in the future and keep going to West...
Read moreOrdered several pick up items from the District location and the website said it would be ready at 6:30pm. Upon arriving at 6:30pm, there was a long line and they were obviously very busy. A very helpful employee greeted me at the pick up section of the counter right away. He looked up my order and it was obviously not ready yet. Normally for me this is the start of a frustrating experience, however, the whole thing was handled remarkably well. The items ended up being ready at 6:50. During those 20 minutes, the employee who originally greeted me checked back with me 5 times to update the status referring to me by name each time. Upon receiving my items, he apologized and let me know that the location had only been opened 3 days and some kinks were still being worked out. He offered me a free drink or any dessert/bread item that looked good to me. I politely declined, thanked him, and left. The food was excellent, as I’ve come to expect from Village Baker. Why a 5 star review given the delay in getting my order? CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! There are no perfect restaurants. Stuff happens in food service. It’s how a place handles whatever comes up on a daily/nightly basis and treats the people buying their product that distinguishes great restaurants from mediocre or horrible places. Kudos VB at the District. I’ll definitely be...
