Phenomenal spot and great staff picks. Off of one short conversation about a manga I hadn’t seen since I was a teenager, the cashier recommended and grabbed around 7 different books with varying styles and stories he thought I’d like. I regret not getting his name, because he was by far one of the most personable and knowledgeable shop keeps ever and I would have loved to give him a shout out. I ended up buying two books because I didn’t have enough room in my suitcase, but if I did I would have bought everything he suggested. Truly an example of someone who clearly loves their job and comic culture.
RPG materials, manga, comics, good vibes, this swap has it all. Highly recommend to everyone, and was happy to support a local business. If you are looking for a place to foster a love of comics, do it here. I haven’t felt this welcomed into a swap and excited about comics since...
Read moreThe Comic Swap is positively the best. John is incredibly knowledgeable about the world of comics, and 100% willing to share that knowledge with anyone who walks through the door. Once I walked in and said I wanted a story-driven fantasy book with a female lead and art that didn't objectify women. I walked out with Echo, by Terry Moore. Absolutely LOVED it. When I moved to Illinois, I couldn't find a comparable small comic shop in town, and so to this day I still get my comics from the Swap. The mail order system they have is excellent. I get a list of my comics and the costs that I approve, then they come in the mail! It's super easy to add or remove books to my order. I also have an awesome deal with John where he sends me a book he thinks I might like with each order, so I can get exposed to new stuff just like I would if I was able to go to the shop in person....
Read moreThis store has a wide variety of both games and comics. The staff is very knowledgeable about both, and there are defiantly some good deals to be had. The game selection range from Pokémon, Magic, European style board games, to new things I’ve never heard of. The store runs Friday Night Magic, and is a good place to go for prereleases and launch parties. Sometimes they have nights they just bust open new games and demonstrate them. Everyone I’ve talked to behind the counter has been super friendly. Right in the middle of State College its really convenient, and now is the only place I need to go for both...
