So far, my fav hot springs area is Ouray, Co! Not because of a really large pool but because there are several waterfalls to see and hiking trails within a very short distance of each other. When approaching from Million Dollar Hwy, just a couple of minutes from Ouray, there are two waterfalls to see from an overlook. One of them freezes in the winter months and we've seen climbers going up the frozen waterfall. Box Canyon is stunning - a must see, but my favorite waterfall in Ouray is at Cascades Falls Park because you can go for a very short hike up to the bottom of this waterfall. You can also hike to a point that will take you behind the falls. The rocks are also of interest in the area. Be sure to check out the stones under your feet as you hike. Read moreThe last in a series of 7 waterfalls along Cascade Creek which runs out from Cascade Mountain, this waterfall is easy to access and beautiful.
By easy to access, I mean REALLY easy. The parking is at the end of 8th Ave. just walk a (steep) 5 minutes alongside the creek to the waterfall.
By beautiful, I mean REALLY stunning. I visited in August, when the water wasn't flowing too strong, on an overcast afternoon. It was especially neat to be able to stand so near to something so majestic!!
It's also super easy to climb around the rocks at the base, feel the cold mountain runoff, and take some neat pictures!
Plus, if you're a Winnie the Pooh fan, the bridge that crosses the creek is absolutely perfect for a game of Pooh Sticks.
All in all, my family and I loved it. What a simple, beautiful, easy-access park!...

There are restroom facilities at the parking lot and then a short uphill to a viewspot with beaches and canopy. The trail also intersects with the Perimeter Trail. After this, it is a short uphill to the falls. Although not a lot of water was flowing, it was cool and refreshing. You can go right up to the falls scrambling over a few rocks. The falls themselves tumble over a cut in the rocks above. Nice picture opportunities even with numerous people around.
This is worth the short drive and hike to see. In addition, the price is...
