Ouray hot springs visit was not kid friendly at all and did not have very hot "hot springs". My kids, who were quiet and well behaved (8 and 10) were too cold in their "hot pool" on a chilly fall day and so was I. So we moved to the pools that were hotter where at the entrance there was nothing stating it was 18+. The lady at the front desk claimed she told me but did not. My kids warmed up enough and went back to the "hot pool" while my husband and I stayed in the hotter pool. The lifeguard went to my kids and told them not to go in the hotter pool where we were again. When they started to get too cold I told them to come in with us again. The lifeguard then came over and said the kids would have to leave. I said the other pool was not warm enough for them on this chilly fall day. He said later in the season they could be in the pool but not today. I said when? In 2 more weeks? He said when there was snow. (It had already snowed on us this trip) I said that was arbitrary and we would keep them quiet. At that point he threatened us and we chose to leave. We had only been soaking maybe 15 minutes total so we asked for a refund at the desk since the hot springs were not warm enough and they would not allow my kids into the area that was. The front desk said no. Proceeded to tell me there were medical reasons my kids couldn't go in the hotter pool which wasn't that hot (105 degrees so they say, it didnt feel that hot). I said there is no medical reason and stated I'm an ER nurse to which the lady got flustered and insisted she told me those were adult only (she did not). I had her call her manager who approved a refund in less than 30 seconds. The whole incident could have been handled so much better from staff. But ultimately this hot springs did not have warm enough pools for kids to stay warm in fall weather. Not much of a "hot springs". It was over $70 for four of us, it was cold out and their hot springs were not hot enough to keep my kids warm in the areas they were allowed and the staff was rude. I...
Read moreCHECK YOUR RECEIPTS HERE! Unfortunately, I was scammed (as in charged double) and the response when I tried to talk to Ouray Hot Springs about it has been abysmal.
Let me explain: This was my first visit to Ouray, CO and to these hot springs (in July, 2023). I was traveling with a friend who is from CO and had been to these springs before. She and I both walked into the entrance and went to different receptionist desks. We each asked for 1 ticket, which is $26 (as of July 2023). The woman giving me a ticket verbally expressed it would be $26. So I swiped my credit card, and went on with my visit. A few days later, after returning home, I checked my bank statement and noticed that I had actually been charged $52. An honest mistake by the receptionist, I'm sure. But when I called Ouray Hot Springs four days later, the person that answered my call told me there was nothing they could do about it and to dispute it with my bank. But of course when I did that, Ouray Hot Springs stated that it was no fault of theirs. My dispute was cancelled, and I was charged for the price of 2 adults. They did not even try to look into it. They could have checked their security cameras to see that I did, in fact, enter and check out alone. They could have seen that the other person I walked in with had gone to a separate desk and had also been charged accordingly. It makes me wonder how many other people have been scammed here. There are several other hot springs in the area, and I would suggest any other ones except these. I know people who have enjoyed Orvis, which are nearby. Or save your...
Read moreOur visit to the Ouray Hot Springs was overall enjoyable. The pools were clean and offered a great variety of temperatures—ranging from warm and relaxing to hot and steamy—making it easy to find your perfect spot to unwind while surrounded by beautiful mountain views.
The changing rooms were adequate, though they could definitely use a bit more attention when it comes to cleanliness and upkeep.
One major downside was the towel situation. Our hotel understandably didn’t allow us to bring their towels to the springs, so we were left to purchase towels onsite at the springs. Unfortunately, the ones available for sale were some of the roughest, stiffest towels I’ve ever used—think sandpaper disguised as terry cloth. At $10 a towel, for something you’ll only use once, it felt like a steep and unnecessary add-on to an already pricey experience.
With the entrance fee and additional costs, things can get expensive quickly—especially if you're just looking for a quick soak. Still, the springs themselves were a relaxing way to spend an hour or two in Ouray. Just be prepared… and bring your own...
