Ouray County Museum — Attraction in Four Corners States

We went to the Gallery today, drove over 5 1/2 hrs to get there. My bf had a family photo, taken in the 1960's of a building, we are both sure we saw down there in the past. We spoke to a gentleman at the bookstore on main Street who referred us to the Museum. We hadn't been there 3 minutes, trying to talk to this gentleman, when a women walked up and said, I am sorry this person on the phone wants to give me a credit card number and Totally disregarded our conversation!! Wow!! We were there in person, asking a question and WERE interested in going to the museum!! However, this woman who worked there was so rude, we decided to leave!!! The Town of Ouray has turned Cold and Money driven!!!! We have spent tons of time down there and it was a wonderfully friendly town, with helpful, kind people everywhere. NO MORE! I would have loved to experience the history of Ouray, at the museum, with a nice semi guided tour with kind people discussing Ourays history with us, but the woman on the phone took precedence and we were shoved aside. This is the most amazing museum i’ve ever visited. The lady up front was perhaps the nicest person i’ve ever met. The museum itself had loads of interesting exhibits, three floors, mining history, geology and rocks, a BEAUTIFUL room exhibit of the hope diamond so so so much more. They had soooo many interesting artifacts, newspapers, sewing machines, blankets, photographs —- you could spend a whole week there!! Definitely worth it this is such a gem and they have a little gift shop with a ton of fascinating books on the history of the place. I could not recommend this place enough it was one of my favorite parts of my visit to Ouray!!!! I would give it a million...

Loved this museum! Didn't expect the amount of artifacts and exhibit rooms that this building holds. There are even cabins and an old barn to see outside! I am a huge history buff and this museum definitely delivered! So many neat exhibit rooms: don't miss out on the mineral rooms in the basement nor the doctor/dentist/hospital exhibits upstairs either! We spent several hours here, but could have easily spent several more, simply to see and read everything they had on display. Highly recommend visiting this museum if you...
