A gem of a grocery in paradise. We had the pleasure of shopping at Duckett's on a recent visit to Ouray. After a disappointing and pricey experience at a restaurant nearby that left us unfulfilled our family decided to just make stuff in the room for the next two days. Duckett's had everything we needed and an affordable option for every item. We bought a full four meals worth of food for less than half what we paid at a local restaurant for a bad dinner. We had steak, burgers, chicken, bacon, 1/2 doz eggs, vegetables, fixings and toppings.
Everyone there was so accommodating and friendly. I like 80/20 burger for grilling and the last package they had was a bit small. An employee saw me puzzling over it and offered to grind more meat so we could get the portion we wanted. I was floored because it was like almost 6pm, and at the same time the manager offered to sell the 90/10 which was appx $3 more a pound for the same price. I thanked him, but opted for more 80/20 and the worker made up 2 packages for me to choose from!
We didn't have to sacrifice as they had a great selection of meats, produce, dairy, breads, chips, snacks, frozen treats and foods, beverages and staples, all at reasonable grocery store prices, not what you expect in a mountain store off the beaten path. Next time we come I plan on provisioning at Duckett's as soon as we hit town instead of packing...

Before entering the store, I was waving at a friend who looked like he had purchased a new truck. When I walked in the store, I was met by an employee that asked if that person was being silly. I explained that I was waving at someone because he bought a new truck. The employee then stated in a tone that was not friendly that I could’ve just said he was being silly. I informed the employee that I don’t have to agree. The interaction could’ve stopped there I’m quite frankly, the entire conversation was just weird. I grabbed a basket and went on about my business. This employee then followed me asking if I needed to speak to a manager in an angry tone. Then followed me to another aisle asking again if I needed to speak to a manager, I said no and why are you following me? She said because you’re being a jerk. Other employees heard this. I I’ve been left the store attempted to call the Store owner when I was told that he’s busy and to call back later. Ouray grocery I have shopped with you for a long time, but I think at this point, you have lost my business for a while. I do not come to your establishment to...
Read moreWhenever I've shopped here, I've wondered why my big-city supermarkets have to be 37 times as big as Duckett's, since it usually has what I need. For as small a town as Ouray is, and as far as it is from any big city, prices aren't bad. Figure you'll pay 25% more than in Denver, but 71% less than you would in Telluride, or 83% less than you would in Aspen. The employees are nicer, too. If you don't like sending your money to an evil company headquartered in New York City, this is the place for you. There really isn't a lot of competition to Duckett's closer than Montrose, so I'm sure they could charge more...
