BEWARE OF INVISALIGN AT PROHEALTH DENTAL
First, I want to give credit where it's due: the front desk staff and dental assistants are great, and Jeff, the dental hygienist, is gentle and professional.
However, my experience with Invisalign at this office over the past two years has been deeply disappointing. I had just switched to ProHealth Dental and came in for a routine check-up and Invisalign consultation. I expected to receive information, but the dentist immediately took molds of my teeth and submitted my insurance--without giving me time to consider or sign any consent forms. I went along with it, which I now regret.
From the very first round of trays, I noticed I couldn't chew properly. When I brought it up, Dr. Jeffrey Lu said it was normal and would improve as the treatment progressed. I trusted the process and continued.
After completing my full set of trays, I still needed refinements--especially on a lower tooth. Dr. Lu had mentioned early on that I barely qualified for Invisalign due to my tooth spacing, and in hindsight, I likely wasn't a good candidate. I've now gone through five rounds of refinements, and my teeth are still not straight. After the first three, they charged $165 per additional refinement--on top of the $4,300 I already paid.
When I asked about more refinements, I was told things like: "There's only so much plastic can do." "Sometimes it can only get up to 90%." "Are you sure you want another refinement?" Yes, I am sure. I got Invisalign to straighten my teeth.
But the bigger issue came toward the end of treatment when I realized I still couldn't chew properly. I started researching and discovered Invisalign can alter your bite, preventing your back teeth from closing. That explained everything. My back teeth weren't touching, and I couldn't chew meat or fibrous vegetables. I can also see in the mirror that my bite was open. Dr. Lu never mentioned this was a potential side effect.
At my next visit, I brought it up again. He checked and confirmed I couldn't close my bite, but said, "Well, one side is better." That wasn't helpful--I still couldn't chew on either side. When I asked for solutions, I was told my options were: Grind down my front teeth Add crown build-up to the back Get orthodontic braces
After two years of Invisalign, I now need braces? Dr. Lu then said Invisalign is mainly for aligning front teeth--not correcting bite issues--and that they weren't responsible for my back teeth. I was never told this when starting treatment. I wasn't given a consent form or warned about any of these risks, which I believe is malpractice.
This is a general dental office, not an orthodontic practice. They take molds, send them to Invisalign, and that's it. Dr. Lu clearly lacks orthodontic expertise--I found more helpful info on Reddit than I did in his office. He also couldn't address the "black triangles" that formed between my teeth after treatment. When I asked, he said he could "barely see them" and brushed it off.
If you're considering Invisalign, go to a licensed orthodontist, not a general dentist. If I had been told that Invisalign doesn't treat bite issues, I would've chosen braces from the beginning.
They now claim they told me about these limitations "verbally," which I do not recall. I asked for signed consent paperwork at my last visit--they had none.
I'm currently trying to negotiate a refund. I used up my one-time $1,000 insurance benefit and now need to go to an orthodontist and get braces, which will cost me several thousand dollars more. I believe I deserve a full refund for the lack of disclosure and poor outcome of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been going to Pro-Health Dental for years and every single time itās a great experience. The staff in the front desk is kind, diligent and always greet you with a welcoming smile. There is no waiting time if you made an appointment and there are several cubicles with garden view so itās so calming to be there. The space is organized, full of light, sparkling clean and comfortable. Dr. Lu is professional, experienced, kind and the best with people. He explains everything in detail so we can be fully informed. Hygienists are professional and friendly. Some members of the staff also speak Spanish, so it makes it easier for clients that need to communicate and are not fluent in English (it happened once with my father and he felt welcomed and a sense of relief). My children also love going to the dentist because they feel great there and say they donāt even feel like the doctor is fixing their teeth. Suggestion: Itās important to plan your visit moths in advance if you need a specific timeframe and Saturdays get booked fast, so planning is key.
Thank you Pro-Health Dental team, you are the absolute best!
