Let me preface this review by saying that it pains me to write anything g negative. But being in management myself, I understand the necessity of constructive criticism.
My wife, three year old, and three month old arrived at 8pm and asked for a table outside so that we could have room for the car seat our three month old was in and not disturb the patrons inside with our three year old that never shuts up. We were accommodated quickly by the hostess.
Our waiter arrived promptly and took our drink order. The drinks arrived quickly. They were both very good. He was attentive and helpful as we asked him the different items on the charcuterie tray vs the cheese tray. We ended up choosing the cheese tray because it came with fruit and as any parent knows, toddlers will eat fruit. We also ordered a sausage and kale pizza.
The charcuterie board arrived quicker than expected. And while it was delicious, it only had two fruits on it that may have added up to a half of a small apple. The cheeses were fantastic, as were the spreads and bread. Just one problem, we didn’t have utensils, so there was no way to cut or spread anything on the tray. The hostess came out to clean up the patio(they close at 9pm), so we asked her for Ute sold and she obliged. Small oversight that I tack up to us asking to be seated in the patio and the staff having already begun cleaning it for closing. Understandable.
The tray was expensive, but such is everything these days, which makes it so difficult to take a family out to eat.
The pizza arrived right as we were finishing the cheese tray. It was amazing. Can’t say enough about the pizza. I’m a fan of spice, so I looked for the pepper flakes. They weren’t on our table. Luckily, there was a shaker on the bar window behind us, so we grabbed them ourselves. Again, probably an oversight from closing procedures. Not a big deal.
When we finally paid, the waiter - who was exceptionally kind and friendly - reached over my toddler and wife to grab the bill. It startled us a little bit. I went to eat the last piece of pizza and reached for the pepper shaker and it was gone. At some point either the waiter or the hostess had removed it from the table unbeknownst to us. Whatever. I ate the pizza as is and it was still delicious.
As I stood up, preparing to leave, he grabbed three or four pizza crusts from in front of my son, in a hurry to clean up the table. This bothered me because he didn’t ask, he just grabbed them. Getting my son to eat anything at a restaurant is difficult, but he likes bread crusts. We would’ve taken them home with us. It just seemed like the staff were trying to go home, despite them having at least six more tables seated inside. My wife didn’t even realize he had taken them and asked me if I had grabbed the crusts. It was that quick.
We got into our truck to leave at 8:58, 2 minutes before closing time. We were the only it family on the patio, but there were still many people inside the restaurant.
I write a lot of Google reviews, so I did not post this review because I had a horrible experience. I actually didn’t. But I left feeling confused and disappointed. Again, the waiter was very friendly and genuine. He shouldn’t be reprimanded for any of this, but perhaps it can be insightful for future reference.
For those curious about costs, our order was a full cheese tray, one pizza, one mixed drink, and one beer. Total after tip? $115. On that note alone, we probably won’t return. However, it was a delightful place with good food and a...
Read moreWasn't even going to write a review until the rudeness from old town tap that I experienced the first time turned into a second time coming to my home to where I live close by... with one of the employees or whoever he thought he was as well as a tenant in the building, telling me "you better move my car right now, we didn't get to dump our trash and they're pissed," because of where I was parked, in front of their dumpster. Which was my fault, I didn't realize that I had parked during the no park time it was an honest mistake and I had been parked there since the night before. Parking can be a pain in the butt. I saw the spot open the night before so I parked. So after coming to my door and being rude about moving my car, when I went to move my car right after pounding on my door and demanding I move, I had already had ticket and it was past the no parking time. So at this point I really could have left my car there and been an ass like them, but I didn't, and I didn't even say anything. I was cool about it. I moved my car. As I got out of my car, I was muttered some b.s. to, by one the workers as I'm walking back inside my home. Prior to this whole experience, the first and last time I actually ate there, the wait staff was rude, she was very impatient with taking our orders. My friends from work and I we're figuring out our drinks, so we told the lady just water for now so we could go over the drinks. She exclaimed "so just water then?" "Uhhh", and rolled her eyes... Ok maybe she was just having a bad day, so I said whatever and let it slide. Then she came back to take our food order and I let her know, we were actually going to get some alcoholic beverages, in which her response was "I thought you just wanted water, uhhh," and rips out the paper with our order and crumbles it up and said "ok, I'll have to redo this!".... Now remember, we only had water at that point. So why she had to redo our order when we only had water I had no clue but it was kinda of funny but very overdramatic and rediculous like a lot of the staff. Needless to say our whole night there, was a huge problem and very frustrating dealing with the lady. Everything was an inconvenience to her, and it's wasn't like we had some complicated order. Everything we ordered was straight off the menu as is and there were only 3 of us. They're just rude and unpleasant to deal with... It's not worth the effort of trying to stay calm and respectful to people who can't act that way back to...
Read moreOh my goodness! There is so many great things to say about this place. Let's start with our waitress, Courtney. She was AWESOME! She was super nice (we had 5 kids with us ranging in ages from 13 to 6). She was patient with the kids and answered all of their questions and had a great attitude. We went during happy hour which had some great options. I wish I'd of sprang $2 more for the shot of whiskey bc 5 kids...whooo mama needed it 🤣 We ordered the hummus and flatbread snack, it was very flavorful and the flatbread had a nice texture and had some spices on it that brought out the flavors of the hummus, which had pistachios and kalamata olives on top. Super yummy. We chose to stick to pizzas since we were on our way home and had a 3 hour drive ahead of us, so it came out promptly. Pork belly and Padron was AMAZING! it had an amazing flavor with the honey. We also ordered a meatball pie. I'm super picky about meatballs and these balls were nothing less than absolutely perfect. They weren't overrun by fennel like some balls. The other two pizzas were aimed at the kids, cheese and pepperoni. As mundane as that sounds they were awesome also. The pepperoni had a great flavor and the cheese blend they use must've been made by unicorns because it was some of the best I've had. Now, let's talk about the crust. It was thin and not overpowering. The crust didn't take away from the magic of the toppings but added to the party that was going on inside my mouth! I will definitely be back next time I come to Truckee! Thank you Courtney! ❤
Update: 5/21/22 Still AMAZING! Their cocktail menu is superb! Creative AND tasty! The hummus is fantastic! The pistachios taste super fresh and their olive oil is smooth. I would like to see a collaboration with their equally fantastic neighbor, Tahoe Oil & Spice. I'm NEVER disappointed in their food or their service. 5...
