I’m usually never the type of person that’ll write a review, but I thought I should share my past experience. I’ve taken the Amtrak from Tucson to LA for three years now and it’s a pretty good option for college students who choose to go home. I’ve never ran into any trouble with them, but this last trip changed it for me. Now, I’ve dealt with racism before especially considering what’s been going on with the virus, but these people are suppose to be professional. A couple of days ago, when I was waiting to get my ticket scanned to get into the train, the person scanning seemed to be in a great mood, joking and laughing with the people ahead of me. None of them were Asian, but when he got to me, he immediately avoided all contact with me, didn’t greet me even when I smiled and said hello. He seemed hesitant to grab my driver’s license and when he handed me back my things, he made sure to not make any contact. I was not told where to go and had to ask if he could point me to the right direction. Instead of giving me verbal directions, he pointed to a general vicinity and rolled his eyes. When I went to go get my seat assignment, the other guy seemed apologetic as I believe he knew what was going on. There is no excuse to be racist to someone, and if he were being cautious, I assume he would’ve done it to everyone ahead of me, not just single me out because of my race. Considering he was an African American male, I’m sure he’s faced racism before, so it’s quite odd that he would intentionally do it to another minority, knowing...
Read moreAs far as the trip itself it's great and being a very frequent rail traveler I've had great experiences and until current trip is give a 4.5 stars with only minor hiccups. On this trip I was informed that I could not have a personal beer on board as a regular traveler. I have never had a problem before and do not get drunk or disorderly. So I can drink anywhere if I buy the booze from diner cart but can only drink private booze if I pay $600 for a sleeper? That is ridiculous and discriminatory. I do buy beer from Amtrak because no one wants hot beer and on a multi day trip i buy 3/4 of trip but 1/4 of trip i like to save a little cash and if i had the money for a sleeper i wouldnt give a damn about saving cash. I ride with you guYs alot and would like to see that policy changed. It's a great way to travel but if a couple tall cans is gonna cause an issue as such I'd rather save the headache and fly. Spirit it $53 and 4 hours amrrak $248 and 2 and half days. People will still purchase your products because we have to but give a...
Read moreHorrible experience. The discrimination was clearly present. I came across 3 employees who did not want to help with the disability access for 2 customers who were by themselves with heavy luggage’s. Both customers purchased the disability ticket and there was no direction, assistance, care, or accommodations. When I asked for assistance and direction in the front office they said they couldn’t help and closed the gate infront of our faces, the other employee who was outside replied in a very rude tone and said he couldn’t help me with any disability access to go to the front office but the front office did not want to help either. I am extremely disappointed how the system failed and there was no one there to provide disability assistance or any form of direction. The customer was not able to take the train that he had purchased, he was physically impaired and felt very unwelcomed and uncomfortable after...
